Possibly the shaft has jammed. Follow this link for a source of good information: http://www.mapug-astronomy.net/AstroDesigns/MAPUG/ArhvList.htm

From their files:
The locking knob has a gear on the inside end of its shaft. It engages teeth on the outside edge of a large metal disk connected to the mechanism that locks the position of the mirror on the central baffle tube. Rotating the locking knob one direction rotates the large disk to tighten the collet on the central baffle. Reversing direction loosens it.
The teeth do not extend all the way around the large disk. So sometimes the locking knob gear jams to a stop before the lock is fully engaged. Soon after the GPS scopes first started shipping Buck Harley discovered that in such cases you can remove the locking knob with its shaft and gear, then reach in and rotate the large disk with your finger. Replacing the locking knob will now allow sufficient rotation to fully engage the lock. If you happen to move the large disk in the wrong direction, then just repeat the process and move the disk in the other direction.
You don't need to tighten the lock down hard. Just a little snug is enough. You should not attempt to use the coarse focus knob while the mirror is locked. Damage to the focusing mechanism could result.
This design is intended to precisely hold the mirror position. So, yes, it is meant to allow effective use of a separate guide scope by eliminating mirror flop when in the locked position.

Wife tried to open genie excelerator garage door when it was manually locked now it doesn't work when I press the open or close switch. Nothing blocking door. What can it be ?

Hi. I'm not sure I am clear about the door issue. If I understand the door problem correctly. If the door has been manually locked. You will need to walk inside the garage, approach the door and manually unlock the door. About 3' up from the floor, in the center of the door. You will notice a lock with two long flat steel rods, one on each side. Each rod extending to the outer edge of the door. The lock will have a "T" handle and a knob or one large knob (that turns) and one small knob (that slides). The "T" handle or large knob will retract or extend the rods and the smaller knob will disengage the lock. I hope this helps. If not, please write back with new questions and information. I will do my best to help walk you through some other diagnostic steps. Good Luck.

Our schlage lock with thumbturn on inside and keyed on outside. When unlock inside, knob turns freely as if it is really unlocked but if I close door, I get locked out. Please help

Be sure the outside knob is unlocked before closing the door.
Schlage locks do not lock the inside knob or lever. After releasing the turn button, also turn the inside lever or knob, then check the outside knob.
What model of lock is this?

My gas door is locked and won't open on my 2001

Inside the truck behind the trim is a manual release for the gas door, the release looks like the head of a large key on a small wire string. It is marked.

How do i reset the locked oven door to unlock it?

I have had that problem once.I turned off the breaker to that oven over night and then in the morning the door opened as it should.I found a GE page that is below. It may help.

Some models with oven Set and Temperature knobs must have those knobs set in the Clean position before the latch can be moved to the left. If your door won't unlock, try turning those knobs back to Clean, then slide the latch over.

Hi my name is eddie the heater blower little lights on the dash have gone out and my mirror light has gone out to

Behind the center knob for the heater controls there is a single small bulb that lights the whole heater control.
Move the switch to the vertical position, move the gear shift out of the way(shift to D or 1 with engine off, and set the parking brake). Use a pair of pliers with a rag to protect the knob and pull the center knob out. The bulb is directly behind it. The best way to remove and replace the bulb is with a piece of rubber vacuum hose. Gently push the hose over the bulb, then pull, the bulb should come out stuck in the hose.
You can install the same way, push the bulb in, then gently pull and twist the hose to release.
Be careful to align the bulb to its socket. If the knob is vertical the taper of the bulb base should also be vertical.
Then just push the knob back on, remembering that it is aligned to a vertical position.

Need more info on the mirror light. You mean the light in the mirror switch?

My passengers door doesn't unlock, so annoying! I don't know what to do, it won't unlock manually (by unlocking all doors) or with a key.

The locking mechanism has come undone from the lock or is jammed. You will have to remove the door panel and figure out if it broke or just came loose.
The mechanism looks something like this except it will have a vacuum actuator. I will past the door panel removal instructions below. Let me know if I can be of any further help.64a6bcb.gif
door panel removal:
  1. Remove the window regulator handle.
  2. Remove the arm rest.
  3. Remove the door lock knob.
  4. Remove the inner door handle cover.
  5. Using a flat screwdriver, gently separate the door trim panel clips from the door.
  6. Lift the panel to remove it and disconnect the speaker or mirror wires as required.
  7. Installation is the reverse of removal. Make sure the sheet of plastic behind the panel is properly sealed against the metal to keep drafts out of the interior.

I have an emtek exterior door lock, that is stuck in the locked position. I can only open it with a key, and not even the inside unlock mechanism will permanently unlock it. I took it apart as much as i...

If the opening is on the side, it probably comes off by pushing a small tool (pick or large paper clip) into the hole while turning the key. When you feel the pin move, pull on the knob and it should come off.
