Question about Whirlpool Ultimate Care II LSQ9564J Top Load Washer

1 Answer

Loud noise, then not so loud, but now electrical burning smell and little draining

At first my washing machine just started out by making a very loud "thumping" noise at the end of every spin cycle, and it just go progressively louder. Now, the noise isnt quite as bad, however, the water is not completely draining from my machine, and there is a slight burning smell at the end of the spin cycle. it seems to me that the spin cycle it self isnt causing the noise, but when the cycle has ended and the machine's drive has disengaged; thats when the noise really gets bad.

Please help!! I am enlisted Navy, so $ is always tight, so just buying a new machine is out of the question...Im really hoping this is just something I can repair on my own.

Thanks very much for your time,
Tony

its definitely a thumping noise. and when the machine is off, i reached in and spun the basket by hand; when i spin it one way, there was no noise, but when i spin it the other way, it makes the noise each time i complete a revolution.

Is it a grinding or a thumping.. It could be something caught in the impellor for the pump, or it could be the tranny going out..

The basket drive and the drive block will need replacing. The nut that holds the basket to the drive block may have come loose causing the drive block to 'jump' over and damage the tabs on the basket drive that causes the thumping as the spin cycle ends. To repair, you will need to purchase a basket drive and drive block. The agitator, balance ring, basket and transmission, will have to be removed in order to replace the basket drive. If less than 3ys old, consider contacting whirlpool for possible warranty concession.

SOURCE: loud noise, then not so loud, but now electrical burning smell and little draining

the smell is your clutch and the lack of draining is a clogged washer drain protector. see these at www.repairclinic.com drain protector is part 541811 and clutch is 2670. go there enter model number and scroll down to the red 100 click it and look for these part numbers.

Washer is making a loud noise when its trying to rinse

you will have to open up the panel to check where the smell comes from. It could be on the motor which may cause also a loud noise or from the electrical, loose connection or bad relay may cause a noise of a different kind.

Maytag washer makes loud grinding noise during the spin cycle

if it's making a noise then either your drain pump bearing is going out or your thrust bearing is going out (assuming the noise happens in both spin and wash). Tip the washer backwards so that you can get underneath of it. Take the belt off and spin the pump pulley on the right side. This should spin effortlessly.

The middle pulley is the trustbearing pulley. Spin this--- one direction it should have a little bit of resistance--- the other should have more resistance

Washer stopped at begin of wash cycle

The problem seems to lie in the rubber backed mat. If the rubber has begun to peel of the mat it often-times get stuck in the drain pump. The best thing to do at this point is to disconnect the electrical cord, open up the machine, drain out the water as best as possible disconnect the power cord to the drain and the hoses. Clean out the drain pump. reassemble. You should be good to go., Unless the drain pump is burned out (left running plugged up too long) if thats the case, replacement of the pump may be neccessary.... Hope this helps...Good luck!.... Loud noise and smell

It would help to know the brand and model number of the washer. If it has a belt that also runs the pump, something may have gotten into the pump during drain and locked the pump causing the belt to slip.
