Question about Dell PowerEdge 1850 (PE1850) Server

2 Answers

Server is located in an extremely dusty environment. Removed the cover, blew out the dust, reseated the cover and placed in the rack. Power appears to be adequate, however, when I push the button to power the server up, it no longer works. I made no changes to the hardware whatsoever.

You may have dislodge a cable or connector when you removed the dust.
Try re-seating the RAM modules, the cards in the PCI expansion slots and all the connectors and cables.

Checked all connectors, specifically fans and all other cabling. Reseatted the RAM, still steady AMBER/YELLOW/ORANGE light. The odd thing is that I have four Dell 1850 servers and they are all exibiting the same behavior.

It is strange that all the servers are having the same problem.
Do you have power surge protection on all these servers?
If not, all the servers could have been damaged by lightning strike on the power line.
For file servers I would recommend you install a UPS (uninterrupted power supply) on each of the servers or one large UPS for all the servers.

Work on one of the servers to determine the fault.
Can you bet into the BIOS? If so check the settings, does it detect the hard disk, RAM, is the date

I have made sure the systems were 110/220 auto-sensing and they are. I have looked all over the box to see if there is a switch they would change it otherwise, but to no avail. I can't get to the BIOS as I can't get it to power the server up. There is no audible alarm, no case fan starts. The power supplies show green and I have tried using four different UPS with anywhere from 40% to 0% load on them. The boxes are getting power, but it appears power is not getting from the power supplies to the system itself. I can see a single, perhaps even two of the power supplies being bad... But not all eight.

It sounds like a power supply problem. It is possible that a power outage or lightning strike could have killed the power supplies in all the servers.
Try to install a known good switch mode power supply inside one of the servers to see if you can get the server to boot up.
    OR
Test the server's power supply with a load tester and measure the output voltages on the connectors. The main voltages to look for are 5volts, -5volts and 12volts.
If you are unable to test the power supply, take them to your friendly computer repair shop and get them to test the power supplies for you.

Appreciate the help. It has since been learned that all four of these systems may have been damaged in the past ans that the power supplies are a collective lot of ones that may have gone bad. I think, we were stumped from the beginning. Again, I appreciate your backing me up in my processes.

Hello!

Try to remove the RAM and other connected peripherals and then insert it again, maybe some parts was moved after you had cleaned the server, see to it---the RAM and connectors are inserted properly.

Hope I was able to help.

1997 k2500 front seat wont stay up

Not a description that gives me a mental image of what isn't happening. Seat (mechanical) mechanisms are generally reliable and give little bother other than return springs which become weak, detached or break. Often such a fault only becomes obvious when the seat is removed for closer inspection.

Seats with pneumatic, hydraulic or electrical functions have a different set of problems, often rooted in lack of use, damp, dusty and dirty operating environment or advancing age

On display says check fan # 1

It should be the fan at the lamp---a suggestion is if the set in a dusty environment---with cover off blow all the dust out of the set--dust on a fan will slow it and can cause this issue.

I have a natural gas hookup and my grill takes a long time to heaat up (15 minutes) and max degrees is 350 - 375. I found dust in the connection hose blew ut out. Also took grill apart and cleaned...

Unfortunately, that's the way it does on Natural Gas, in an outdoor environment. The reason being, Propane Gas burns cleaner and hotter than Natural Gas in an outdoor environment. Of course, on the plus side, you don't have to get tanks refilled. With that said, the thermometer on the grill may be faulty.

To test this theory, buy an inexpensive oven thermometer (the kind that can be placed on an oven rack) and place inside the grill, when you're preheating it with the lid closed. Once you grill thermometer reaches 350 degrees, open the grill hood and compare it the two temperature readings. If the oven thermometer is reading significantly higher, then you no the grill thermometer is faulty.

Hope this helps you get back up to temperature.

The part that has gathered dust may be a clip-on cover and it is very common for screws to be hidden under clip-on covers or in the battery compartment of the cell phone if you are able to get the covers off be extremely careful with the accusal screen because they are very easy to scratch and finger prints will only smug and make things worse if you have a lens cleaner for eye glasses I would recommend that for cleaning the screen do not use any kind of liquid to help even if it is just damp it will still leave marks.

MODEL INDICATED HAS 3 TUBES---THE LENS SHOULD BE REACHABLE FROM THE BACK WITH THE SET UNPLUGGED AND THE BACK COVER REMOVED. Clean them with a lens cloth or a paper towel with glass cleaner sprayed on the towel----they are the light source for your picture and if dusty the picture will be darker and duller than it should be------This should be done once a year or more often if a dusty environment. Dust inside lens

this can be a doozy, but if you are up to it, remove the top cover, you may have to remove the rear, front and maybe sides, i don't know, but what you are after is the cover over the top of the lens. take that off and use air to blow it out--don't touch anything, just blow. several bursts then quickly replace the cover over the lens assy. if used in a dusty environment or ceiling mounted, you may have to do this as needed.

Wouldn't read mariokart kept giving error message and to power down console but power button wouldn't work had to pull plug wire off back. this happened several times

Ungh! Sounds like some frustrating symptoms! My guess is there are actually TWO things wrong...they may be connected somehow, but I can't be positive. The black screen on an unmodified Wii sounds like a problem with a freezing processor...ironically, this happens when the unit overheats. If the Wii is placed in a cramped environment where there is little room for circulation it could cause heating problems.
The second possibility actually WOULD cause both problems. If the Wii is in a dirty or dusty environment (Like houses down dirt roads) it can cause the lens to get dirty and misread discs AND a thin layer of dust can cause heat retention problems within the unit.
If you are in a dusty area, I would suggest getting a can of spray "air" and gently blow air FIRST around the back port of the unit (make sure EVERYTHING is unplugged!!!) and then plug it back in long enough to open the disc drawer, unplug it, and now that the door is stuck open GENTLY blow a little more air around to free dust from the lens.
Make sure you don't shake the can as you blow as it can cause liquid frozen "air" to blow into the machine which can potentially cause irreparable damage to the unit.

My laptop cuts off as if the whole house had a power failure, this is getting more frequent. it seems to have to cool down before it can be restarted. Any suggestions?

is your cooling fan, or fans, working? or your laptop placed where the fans can't circulate the exhaust air out properly? seems, as you've observed, there's an over-heating problem. you in a dusty environment?have cats!?? i have- and could probably, between dryer, fans, etc. build 2 or 3 kittens out of their sheddings!
if you have your fans on the back, or bottom- then make sure they're not obstructed by cloth, paneling, or 'dust bunnies'! use a vacuum on low, or partially cover end of hose, and **** the dust out of fans, if present! turn on laptop, and see if fan, or fans are spinning! don't use a compressed air can to clean them!!! can crud-up mechanicals inside laptop! perhaps use a very fine artists brush to loosen debris from fan blades, before you 'gently' vacuum out dust!!
good luck!

On and off picture and color weak Sanyo HT30744

I had the same problem with my refurbished HT-30744 model and my mom's HT-32744 model. It was either try to fix it or buy a new one, so I figred had nothing to lose.

I removed the back cover, unseated the picture tube driver board from the neck of the picture tube (it just pulls off), put on a dab of di-electric grease on the connector on the card, reseated the card, removed and re-applied more grease, reseated the card and the picture has like new for 2 weeks now!

This was a very easy fix.
