What is a good mod? I have seen a lot of mods that were said to be good, but were really hack jobs.

Please explain the mods that have been done to the radio. Also check to make sure the mic is good. Try a different mic that you know works.

Good day I have an cobra 148 Gtl tx and rx a working but no out put

It might not seem obvious but on many, if not all, current CB radios have separate wires coming from the microphone for RX and TX. It seems like the mic wire for TRANSMIT may be open. It is a common failure.

Radio quits after 15-30 seconds

without more detailed info, quick suggestion - thermal fault, if all TX audio works when in this fault condition, it may be fair to assume audio IC is ok and check electrolytic capacitors and dry joints.

Ive got a 29ltd and get no sound out of it and its hooked to a wilson 2000 antenna and the radio has been tuned and a mod kit put in, so how can i fix this prob?

Hi Mt

quick things to check would be mic first cb/pa switch if you have a ext. speaker unplug it just to see if you can get any sound out of the unit, even a small hiss. Some times a mod kit improperly installed can take out the audio ic in the radio if this happens in a 29 you will get no tx audio or rx audio because the audio amp ic in these radios handle both tx and rx audio.

I have a cobra 148gtl with 5 pin side plug for mic.Im trying to wire a superstar dm 1000 echo mic to it,red, yellow, blue, white,& unsheilded wires dont know were they go.???????

ALLways start with ground. Find ground on radio pin with ohm meter. EVERY thing operates off ground. Once you find ground on radio....solder your ground wire on mike cord to corresponding # on mike jack. Once you have ground on proper pin then all else is elementary......use ohm meter to see which wires are TX and RX on mike.....last wire is audio wire.

Cobra 148GTL can't TX on USB

Its the cap that feeds the first transistor to the first of the finals. It is either shorted or burned out.

Or the audio IC. It could be putting just enough out on AM to seem like its working, and then not enough for side band.

look at the caps near the finals. Look for a burn one, or one that could be twisted, or shorted in any way.

148GTL Cobra (no tx)

Bad transmitter. You can:
1) take it to a repair shop
2) get a new radio
3) repair the transmitter with a stock replacement transmitter
4) check the inside of the radio, make sure everything is where it's supposed to be
5) make sure that you are using the correct power supply for the unit

If the problem is too extensive and you consider getting a new radio similar to the 148GTL, try the Galaxy DX 2527. It's a BIG radio. But it's production was discontinued. If you can't find a Galaxy DX 2527, try a Galaxy DX 2517, it's similar to the DX 2527, but with less features, but has great sound, I get nothing but good comments when I talk on it. The DX 2527 has an okay transmitter, it doesn't sound all too good by itself, so that's why you have the echo and robot voice changer options.

Hope this helps!
