Question about Dell Photo 964 All-In-One InkJet Printer
I'm trying to use the scanner for the first time, and after waiting for it to go through the "downloading scan applications list from your computer. please wait", I then chose scan to file. Next, I hit the center button (checkmark) to preview scan. Scan mode started, the picture was scanned and I can see it on the preview screen. But then when I hit the green "start" button it doesn't do anything. How do I get it to actually scan and save the file? and where will the file be saved?
First do your scan on Dell 964 scanner &printer. Scan to clipborad. You hear it scan but nothing happens on your computer. Go to control panel - scanners and cameras - scan profiles - find the document you have scanned, select it and click edit - click preview - in the left corner you will see in blue "How to scan a picture" click that, it will lead you to Windows Photo Gallery - there click on file and import from scanner of camera - it will scan there and your scanned pics will be in your picture folder :) Took me a while to figure it out :)
You can avoid all this and go directly to Windows Photo Gallery :)

I also had the same problem but I download a new driver from http://driverscollection.com/?H=All-in-One%20Printer%20964&By=Dell and ran the .exe file and now all is working, hopefully it will work for you as well

You need to remove the XP drivers before upgrading to Vista; use the Patch found at

I ahve the Dell All-in-One Photo 964 Printer. The software says it can't communicate with computer. But faxes and scans can be done manually on printer, the software is needed to drop scans into e-mail, files etc. It worked perfectly fine when I had Windows XP, I now have Windows Vista. I have the same problem above also when using it manually.

I have the same problem. I fixed it once now its doing it again. I can't find the exact place that walked me through it, but basically, you have to delete the printer from you computer then reinstall it.
