Question about Zhone (6218-I2-200) Router

1 Answer

Username & password

Attn: tech curly,

How do i change my username & password from "admin". on my Zhone 6218-I2. Will it affect my WPA settings.
I had previously followed your advice Re: unsecure to secure wifi connection on my Dell inspiron 6000. It worked out great.
Can I also use Mac filtering. How does one do that? Or is it possible to change my SSID from Wireless to any other name.

Please advise.

Thanks, again in advance.

Changing the router password from admin to any password I think that you would be possible. Other brands of router has that option. And the router password won't affect the password for the wireless connection, they are different from each other. Wireless mac Filter is another way of securing your wireless network. Its done by listing the MAC Addrses (media Access control) or the physical address of your wireless adapter on your computer/s to either allow them to connect to the network or not to connect to the network. but I recommend to just use WPA security. It's secured and its much easier to add another wireless device to your network, because you just need to put the password and no need to get the MAC address and manually encode in on your router setup page. Its also possible to change the SSID or the name of your network.

I will get back to you with the steps on how to change the ssid adn change the router password. Okay?

*I suggest that you do this on a computer that has a wired connection to the router if possible.

    To change the ssid
    1. log back in to the setup page of your router (if you cant remember how to do that just check the steps that I sent you before)
    2. click wireless and select basic (this in on the left hand side of your router page)
    3. middle of the page look for SSID (its Wireless by default) you can delete wireless and type any name that you want, then click on save/apply at the bottom.

After the router save the settings your wireless laptop will get disconnected from the wireless connection all you need to do it reconnect and check if you will see
the name that you assigned to your router.

    Changing the router password

    1. One you are in the router setu page on the left handside of the screen click on Management
    2. Under management there will be a Folder Named Access Control, click on it.
    3. Select on Password, the screen that you will have you will see username, old password, new password and confirm password. This is where you can change the router password.
    4. for the username field click the drop down arrow and select admin, for the old password field type "admin" and for the new password field type the new password that you want for your router.
then retype the new password on the confirm password field. then click save/apply. and you can log backin using admin for username and password is the new password that you have set.

    I hope this one helps.

If you don't know the password, all you need to do is reset your router, then it will be all factory defaults again.

The default user name is Admin and the password is Admin.
