Question about GE Profile Stainless Bottom-Freezer Refrigerator with Internal Dispenser 22.2 Cu. Ft. - PFS22SIS

Fridge and freezer getting warmer by the minute, 53 degrees and 43, respectively. Does it just need freon, or is it more serious?

I removed the back and there is no ice on the coil. I plugged it back on. The small fan next to the coil is not turning (I do not know if it should be at all times). There is air blowing into both freezer and fridge, but it only feels cool. The temp has continued to go up over night, now at 63 in both. I have noticed a single click from the back bottom of unit every couple of minutes. Any other suggestions?

Hi! If the refrigerator is running and not cooling or not cold enough: Several factors may influence the temperature. Try the following:

  • Check the freezer fan, it should be blowing plenty cold air to both the freezer and the refrigerator, feel the fridge vents, if no or too little cold air is coming thru, turn temp. controls off and unplug unit form wall outlet and remove the freezer back panel to get behind the fan, check for frozen evaporator coil and ice obstructed air duct to fridge. Use a hair dryer to melt all the ice and when done re-assemble back panel and plug unit back into wall outlet, turn unit on setting the controls half way, I believe # 5.

  • Check the temperature control settings.
  • For Dial or Digital Readout Models, adjust your temperature control by one number higher for a cooler temperature setting.
For Actual Temperature Readout Models, adjust your temperature control by one degree lower for a lower temperature setting.
watch a video on how to defrost the evaporator coil.
It is not unusual that due to temp changes, the door left open, and mis adjusted temp. controls, the evaporator will get frozen, if it happens again, the defrost heather may be defective and needs to be replaced. Good Luck!!

Unplug the unit form the wall, wait a couple of minutes, plug it back on, the compressor and the condenser fan on back of the unit must always come on at the same time, otherwise, the overheat protection device on the compressor (the click you hear) will turn the compressor off to prevent damage.

If fan don't come on, replace it. You can place a regular fan on the back of the unit directed to the condenser coil to keep unit working while you get a replacement fan. I will give you a link to get the part number, but it will be faster if you get it from a local appliance parts store.

    Fridge not getting cold.....still

    Hello Nick,

Don't let your frustrations get the best of you...
    WE can do this...!!

Defrost consists of only three (3) parts...

    - Control board (or timer, not in your case:
    (see below)).. A common problem.

    - Defrost heater element (to melt the "FROST"
    (seldom fails)
    (to keep the temp DOWN)

The EASIEST but most expensive part is the
    DEFROST control board.

Take lots of pictures before removing any wires.

I have a GE mdl PSI23SGRCSV side by side. initially the digital temp displays for both freezer and fridge sides went to 16 on freezer side and 43 on fridge side. This happened almost overnight it seemed....

it may be that your fridge is now low on freon the techs now do not know what to do the best thing to do is to call the tech and ask them to test the compressor pressures and see if it is low on charge. unless you know how to take the lower back panel off (the one that is probably cardboard) and feel the lines on the compressor and see if it is really cold and really hot that means that it is cooling properly but if it feels a little warm cominv out of the cooling side and hot on the return side then you need more freon.

    Fridge is freezing

There are two things you need to make sure before you declare the fridge at fault. Firstly, make sure that fridge isn't overloaded with items and that any air vents aren't blocked. Give it room to circulate the inside air. That helps it to cool evenly/at all. Next, find the thermostat. This will most likely be inside the top of the door frame when you open the door on newer fridges, or somewhere along the back or side walls. There'll be a setting for the freezer, and a setting for the fridge. The knob might use letters, numbers, or an arrow that says COLDER. Set the knob to slightly warmer, then leave the fridge alone for 24 hours. I highly suggest putting a suitable-type thermometer in the fridge and adjust the temp until it's around 34-38 degrees F. Do NOT allow the fridge to become warmer than 40 degrees. Between 40 and 140 degrees F is the "danger zone" where microbes thrive in food and are much more likely to cause food poisoning. You must never let food sit in the danger zone for more than 4 hours.
If cleaning the fridge and adjusting the thermostat don't work, you'll definitely want to have a refrigeration professional take a look at the fridge. It may as simple as adding coolant or "freon".

Freezer works great, but fridg. will not get below 50

The fridge gets its cold air from the freezer through a vent(damper) between the freezer and fridge. The fan in the freezer blows air through it. There is a flap you adjust with the fridge temp. control. Make sure it's opening and closing when you adjust the fridge temp.

Freezer is ice cold, fridge won't cool lower than 42*

Sounds like it's not defrosting, so unplug open freezer back panel and use a hair dryer to melt ice from evaporator coil. Your refrigerator has a defrost timer on bottom near floor, but if freezer is frozen we need to defrost it so we can make sure there is not some other problem. Freezer has quit compleatly

could need freon. Could have a bad thermostat. Could just have a leak, which is the easiest to fix, check around all the edges of the door for any deformed stripping or openings, if it is, just go to a hardware store and buy some more stripping, otherwise call a repairman or buy a new fridge

Sub zero 650 fidge holding at 53 degrees

That depends on if your model has a five or ten year warranty on the compressor. Your problem may not be warranty related. Check and see if the condenser is clean, check for a frozen cooling coil.

The freezer is cold, the fridge is around 50 degrees. The machine was recently turned on for the first time in approx 1 yr. It did ride on it's side for 30 mins. However, I did let it stand upright for...

When not run for a while, or stored on its side..the oil AND freon can deposit into / or out of the compressor sump. This could take a day or a little more to fix itself. Otherwise your indication is of - low freon.
