Question about Microsoft Windows XP Professional With Servise Pack 2 (e8503040) for PC

Installing XP on a preinstalled vista comp

So, im tired of vista, like everybody else. So i wanted to install xp.
So no problems at all, i start to reinstall XP like ive done hundreds of times on my stationary, but then...

Well the thing is it Says, "cant find harddisk", and then all the stuff about remember to turn on your harddisk and stuff.

So i looked at your (actually very informative) post about how to solve this, but i cant seem to find the place to edit the SATA harddisk

Heres a little description of what i see, since that usually helps quite a lot:

The wellknown BIOS: Main, Security, Diagnotics, System Configuration and lastly exit.

So i pick System configuration, since thats the only logical option (ive checked all the other stuff to ofcourse, but i still cant seem to find it)

But the only options i get is: Language, Button sound, Virtualization Technology, Processor C4 State

No SATA stuff at all, can you please help me ? ^^

Go to manufacturers web site download raid drivers, specifically the F6 disk driver and make a floppy with it. When you start xp cd it will say press F6 to add disk drivers, hit F6 and wait until it asks for floppy. If you don't have a floppy, get one, because if you need the driver, it is a difficult process to make it work without floppy driver disk. Some manufacturers have a way to do this with a memory stick, but I have never had much luck that way. The last way is to create a new xp disk with the drivers slipstreamed in. You can get free nLite software to do that at http://www.nliteos.com/

How do I setup a dual boot for a PC with Vista and XP? I want XP to start automatically. My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L355-S7915 that had Vista Home Basic preinstalled.

The first thing you need to do is repartition the hard drive. This will effectively erase the drive because partitions run below the OS level.

You create two partitions and then you can load each OS to its own partition. When the box boots you choose the OS you want to start and thats it...I think if you put the preferred OS in the first partition it will load that one by default.

You need both OS disks to do this so make sure your factory Vista disk works.

Can i run vista and xp on my comp

install the two OS in separate drives (e.g. XP in C drive and vista in D drive) either have two hard disk drives or 2 partitions.
then you choose which one to run in the start up.

use a vertualization software "vmware workstation" and you would be able to work on xp without installing it physically. this software is used to run several operating systems at one time.
link is http://www.vmware.com/products/ws/
you can use the trail version for 30 days

Trying to install xp on a vista

First, have you deleted Vista, or are you trying a dual boot?

Second, you do not have to disable your HDD or you cannot do the installation!

For a step by step procedure to install XP on a Vista computer (dual boot), please check here:
http://www.syschat.com/dual-boot-vista-xp-vista-already-1946.html
or
http://apcmag.com/how_to_dual_boot_vista_and_xp_with_vista_installed_first__the_stepbystep_guide.htm

I do not recommend removing Vista completely,if that is what your laptop/PC came with, as most components and drivers installed will be Vista specific. If you need to have XP, make sure you have all the drivers for XP first.

Installing XP over preinstalled Vista

You can Install XP simply by inserting the Installation Disk and running the Install Program. When asked where you want to install it select C:\ and let it remove the existing Operating System.

PeepnLklown is correct that this MAY void your Warranty so check this out first. If this is not a problem, install XP as described.

As regards the Drivers, it is IMPORTANT to have the correct Drivers FOR THE OPERATIING SYSTEM INSTALLED, all your devices should have XP drivers listed on the Manufacturers sites - so Identify the components and download the drivers from the manufacturers site (this may not be Toshiba) before you install XP (to make sure that you will have the XP Drivers for the devices).

To identify the Devices - open Device Manager (If I remeber correctly this can be found in Control Centre under Administrative Tools) and open each of the devices which will display the manufacturer and model number of each device. Write these down and do a Google search with the following string:

(brand Name) (Model number) +driver

This should take you to the manufacturers Support site where you can download drivers. Check to see that XP is listed as one of the Operating Systems. Download the Driver and (when you have them all) burn them to a disk.

Install XP and when asked for the drivers, direct it to the disk you have burned to find the drivers. The DVD Burner may need to be searched for on the Internet (after you have Installed XP) before you can use this device to read the Disk.

Good luck.

V3424au presario notebook update

This is possible but will take some patience. Install Windows XP & Service Pack 2 Then check what drivers are NOT installed by going to device manager. Then go the the Compaq page that lists the drivers for Vista: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=2093&lc=en&cc=uk&dlc=en&product=3446906&lang=en Make a note of the name/model of these drivers and search for the XP equivelent usually by visitng the device manufacturers website. Im sorry this is complicated and long winded but its the only way.
