Question about Hitachi Televison & Video
I know this set, I have worked on a lot of Hitachi sets.
You are describing a convergence problem and most likely it uses either 2 or three chips for this. Chips will be black in color with average of 14-18 pins. The fact that you hit it and it works means it is most likely solder connections at one or more of the three or two chips involved.
The repair would entail getting the entire chassis loose and tilting it up so the bottom of the circuit boards face the back of the set---With a magnifier glass a careful look at the pins for the chips on the bottom of the board should show cracked or ringed connections.
If someone finds this the best thing to do is carefully resolder all the pins on them.
If the connections are good it could be a similar problem in the power supply which provides 2 different voltages to them.
Let me know if I can help. I will attach a photo of what a typical chip looks like.
NOTE THE BLACK PARTS ON LEFT SIDE--THAT IS WHAT THE CHIPS LOOK LIKE AND WILL BE ON LARGE METAL TO KEEP THEM COOL.
