Question about Maytag Neptune MDE5500AY Electric Dryer

1 Answer

The heater and timer do not work

I have a Neptune drier, 8 1/2 years old. All of a sudden the timer and the heater stopped working.

It helped to confirm that the heat and the timer are related. The problem was that the heater switch was pushed all the way up and and was not making contact to the thermostat. By bringing it down 1/4 of a inch it is now working.
    Thank you for your promptness.

The timer won't advance unless te clothes are drying with heat.(No heat, no movement).
Check your fuse or breaker box to see if you have a tripped 30 amp breaker,(Flip breaker OFF then back ON), or blown 30 amp fuse.(Replace both 30 amp fuses to eliminate the possibility of being wrong).
If these check ok,(be certain), then you have a breakdown on the heat side of the 240 volt circuit, at which point, I would recommend calling a technician.

Let me know if I can be of any more assistance.

Maytag Neptune dryer timer won't stop

If the timer is not stopping as it goes around then it's for sure the timer. The timer does pretty much all the work with controlling the dryer. And if it's physically not stopping going around then it has broken.

Pool timer can not get the plate to turn. Can lift the teeth but will not turn.

Timer is not identified.
Copy following link to help identify timer, and download possible manual.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Intermatic-timers-and-manuals.html#HB31
And then add comment with clear description of timer, and what device the timer controls, and add if this is new timer, or timer that worked before and stopped working, and about how many years old the timer is.
Most timers come with limited 1 year warranty.

Refrigator not cooling -freezer section icing up. Maytag MSD2432GR Have had it six years never had a problem. Pulled lower back pannel cleaned back of refrigator of dust with a vacuum didn't notice any...

At the moment I would look inside the fresh food section and behind the controls there there you will find the defrost timer. On most you need not take the control panel apart but look for a hole with a plastic plug covering the hole. The part is=> 68233-2 Defrost Timer 8 Hour You may also manually defrost your refrigerator by unplugging the power and removal of frozen good to a ice chest. Either use a hair drier once removal of the rear panel in back of freezer or place a bucket of hot water inside and close the door and wait. Sometime beaware that a lot of water will drain to the defrost condensate pan near compressor and may overflow if not careful. If the timer seems to work then we need to test the defrost heater and defrost thermostat=>

Instructions are on the lower part of that page on how to test with an OHM meter.

sea_breeze_138.jpg Turn the timer clockwise slowly until the compressor and fans stop. That should manually place the refrigerator into defrost. After a minute or so open the freezer door and listen for crackling or sizzle noise. That will be the sound of defrost. Wait about 30 minutes until timer comes out of defrost itself and if not turn the timer again until compressor and fans start again. If this works out like this then replace the timer. If not then we need to go inside the=> Freezer Compartment Components
Part position 12 is the defrost heater and defrost thermostat. Position 13 is the clip that holds heater in place. 68233-2 Defrost Timer

The lights that are attached to my sylvania digital wall switch timer SA170 flash. I changed the batteries in the switch a month ago.

If timer worked correctly in the past, and suddenly stopped working, then manual says to push the reset button.

Following link has manual.
http://waterheatertimer.org/pdf/Sylvania-SA-170-Manual.pdf

I test timers, and most in-wall, and plug-in timers have 1 year limited warranty, although some last 5-7 years. When timers go bad, they are replaced. Sylvania is a good brand.

EH40 Manual:

1) EH40 uses size A battery. Replace battery.
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-wire-EH40-hot-water-heater-timer.html#Battery
2) Reset the timer: Press and hold reset button for several seconds
3) Contact Intermatic because they are aware of specific problems with specific timers
http://www.intermatic.com/customer%20service.aspx
4) Other folk have reported EH40 and EH10 last about 3 years.
EH40 has 1 year limited warranty.
I test timers: 7 years is reasonable run for inexpensive electronic time switch.
5) For longer lasting timer, consider Next Generation: battery is replaced every 8 years
