KV-20fv300-cycling thru channels

Hi: My 5 year old sony has started cycling thru channels on it's own without notice. The remote or front panel buttons will not respond while this is happening. Unplugging corrects the problem for a while. Any idea what the problem may be? Thanks.

Thanks, jerry. It hasn't done it in a couple of weeks. I did notice that when I was accessing the control panel (opening the door) at that time, it would start doing it again. If (or should I say when) it does it again or gets persistent, I'll have to just get a new LCD set. It would be a shame because all my other sony tube sets gave me 15+ years of usage.

Thanks again,

Bob

I have had cold solder connections on the circuit board of the control panel cause this. I have also had defective switches on the control panel, or a situation where the customer sprayed water on the face of the CRT for cleaning and some of the water leaked down inside on to the control panel. In this case, there were many times where I had to replace the complete control panel.

It is also possible to have a defect in the main uPC. This type of repair can end up being expensive.

Cant change channels?

What is your antenna source? Cable or antenna? Try keying in a certain channel on your remote. see if you get that channel. Tv will not auto program if you do not have channel source coming in to antenna input.

Apparently, channels have to be autoprogrammed first before those buttons will work.

Our TV is 4 years old but we never used the channel buttons bc it was always hooked up to DirecTv thru video input. SO when we disconnected the TV to sell, we thought it was a problem.

Sony KV-24FV300 changing video input by itself - possessed?

It sounds like the tact switches (on the control panel) are defective.....This usually happens after some one cleans the screen with a spray and it drips onto the board, Or they went bad on their own.

Volume gone mad

Is there a ceiling fan in the same room? Under the right conditions, light reflecting off the whirling blades hits the TVs sensor at just the right frequency, causing mysterious things like this. Try covering the infrared sensor on the TV (it should be behind a red transparent piece of plastic somewhere in the front. If this keeps it from "going mad", then something in the room is to blame. If it still does it even when the sensor is covered, then it is the TV. Good luck, and let us know what you find!
