Question about Philips Televison & Video

We bought a Philips TV (model : 42PF9966/79) three years ago. Intermittently we are getting a thin black horizontal line through the middle of the screen. What is causing this?

    I don't think it is a bad connection.

    Yes, it is a plasma.

    The line tends to disappear after about 5 or 10 mins after switching on but then sometimes reappears for a time.

    Also I don't know what you mean by the 'driver board' and the 'panel'.

    I am delighted at the fact that this has happened one month out of warranty.

The model number you listed is bad. I think the last 2 numbers should be 37. But it sounds like a plasma tv. In that case the problem can be a bad connection from the driver board to the panel.
Take off the back of the set and reseat ALL of the ribbon cables on the far left and far right sides of the set. If this does not fix the problem, the panel is bad. This is not worth fixing. Buy a new tv.

    You need to call Philips ASAP. Do not waste anymore time. Call them. The soner you call them, the better, they MIGHT cover the repair.

My Sony Bravia KDL 40WL 135 TV has been flashing strange colors for awhile; today screen is black with a thin blue line across the bottom. No sound. Any help appreciated.


The vertical output section circuit has the fault. Contact any experienced service technician. This is not a user repairable fault.

It is my guess that you have some intermitent solder connections in the Vertical output circuit.

module problem take it to a Authorized dealer or a NESDA dealer service manuals hard to say if available since analog TVs are slowly going away and parts well another story might as well go buy a new HDTV set as a CET no garuntee how long it will be analog TV parts will be discontinued. FCC has alot to do with it.

Screen is black except for thin line in middle of screen


The problem is in the vertical section of the main board. Bad capacitors and maybe the vertical IC. If you are not inclined to be a tech you will have to take it to a shop.. I don't know what they may charge but I normally get $69- $89

Picture is now a thin horizontal line


now only visible in a thin horizontal line. first of all you reduce brightness to monimum. it just to protect your tv from crt demage. your problem is in horizontal output section as you have mentioned that week or so ago the right and left bottom edges of the picture began to move in like a sideways triangle filled with black so this sympton is due to hor. section problem. your flyback transformer or horizontal output might be defective. but remember check for power supply is ok from surge protector hope this will help.

Tv not working


this symptom, sometimes called the tube light effect, it is characterised by a bright thin horizontal line across the middle of the screen. this symptom is caused by a breakdown in the vertical deflection circuit. hence maybe the trouble maybe in the vertical oscillator, amplifier or output circuits. but if all i have said is not clear to you, better bring it to a qualified tv technician. good luck!
