Question about Polaroid FLM-3232 Television

1 Answer

From power on, until about 20 minutes warm up, there is a high pitched squeal from the speakers, and random vertical color bars (can't see any video). After about 20 minutes, everything works fine.

There are several weak capacitors in your signal board. You may need to replace as many as 15 or 20 capacitors. You will need purchase a cap checker. Many cases say to replace the signal board. But with great caution and patience a TV tech can do this for you! The power supply board will need one or two capacitors checked and replaced. As for the signal board, yes this is where the problem lies.

After tv is on for approx 20-30 mins it starts to make a loud high pitched squeal or whine. once turned off for approx 10-15 mins can turn it back on for another 20-30 mins before squeal will return....

Sounds like a problem I had with a Polaroid t.v. Take the cover off the back and look for capactors that are buldging on the top. The top should be slightly concave. If they are convex at all, you can buy new one at Radio Shack and replace them for under $5.00

Philips HTS3450 - high pitched humming noise until warmed up

Jeremy,

Read one of my posts:
I used a hairdryer and blew hot air into the grill on the bottom of the subwoofer enclosure which reduced the delay time from ~1hr to 5 minutes. (The high pitched noise was still there for about 1-2 minutes)

High pitched squeal

Hi...

Does the squeal come from the TV cabinet or the speaker?
If from the cabinet , it's most likely the Horizontal high-voltage section of the set.
Find someone that's good with hand tools, unplug the set from the wall outlet, let it sit for a good 30 minutes.
have someone open up the back of the set and dust out and vacuum out any dust from inside the set.
Put back together and try it out.

Most likely there are electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and also possibly in the amp sections that are going high in ESR.

It would be best to test all the caps with an ESR meter and then replace the ones that are out of spec. You have an excellent chance that this will fix the unit.

If you are not experienced at doing electronics servicing, you can give the unit out to a service center to have it fixed.

Black screen, high pitched squeal

A set that has only a 1/2 inch bright line through the middle of the picture, from left to right, has a vertical output IC that is not working correctly. If the 1/2 inch line is in the middle but going up and down, then the horizontal yoke circuit has stopped working. These are problems which should be looked at by a qualified tech, but if the set was purchased 6 months ago then it should still be under the manufacturer's warranty.
