YOu need to run Stringer to get rid of any viruses and other stuff---I don't know if this is what you mean by intrusive software.. Make sure to follow all of the directions. I ususally download the file which is very small and then disable my restorepoint. Just make sure to enable the restore point after you run Stringer. I run once a week to catch any mutated viruses.

Would like to do recovery on my craig netbook clp281x

With Windows XP, you go to start- programs-accessories and choose the system restore option. System Restore will allow you to take your computer back to an earlier date simply by clicking on a date highlighted in bold. Going back in time .. you will lose any software put on since that date, but not documents or photos.
In Windows 7 the 'restore' option is found by going into the control panel.

Title:missing plug-inn?i want to restore

If you set a restore point then do as --
To set a System Restore Point...
  • Open the Start menu
  • Open the Programs menu
  • Open the Accessories menu
  • Open the System Tools menu
  • Finally, start System Restore
  • Pick the option for setting a System Restore Point and click on the Next button
  • Fill in a name for the restore point so you can find it and click on the Create button
  • Click on the Close button when done
Recovery---
In Windows XP, Windows Vista and Windows 7, if booting all the way into normal mode causes problems, such as features that don't work, freezes, etc., it is possible to backdate Windows itself to an earlier state when it was working properly by restoring a restore point created automatically or manually by or in System Restore.
You should know that System Restore does not back up and restore non-system files or third-party software or any changes made by such software. It also does not involve restoring the data files on the computer. Only the essential files required to get Windows running are involved in the creation of its dated restore points that take the system files back to the date on which a particular restore point was created. Nor does System Restore clean up files left over by a botched software installation, which is a common cause of corrupted system files, and it can't be used to restore selectively files that have been accidentally erased. In other words, System Restore is a very handy tool that has saved my PCs on numerous occasions, but it is not a substitute for a full system backup, such as the creation of a disk image of the system, and should never be relied upon as such.

Have a Dell inspiron 1525 after adding google and some extensions laptop shut down after the restart almost all of my Windows Services wont work or my firewall says it is off but wont let you turn on

Sounds like something got hosed up. i would recommend doing system restore to previous date when this was working fine. you will have to reload software that was installed after the restore date but this should not be hard. Click on start, all programs(programs for vista and windows 7) choose accessories, system tools and restore. chose restore computer to earlier date and proceed. If you cant do it in regular mode reboot pc and on reboot keep on tapping key F8 to go to safe mode and do same steps to do restore. Hope this helps.

System restore won't work

Just a thought- go to My computer>click on view system information>system information box, click on system restore, and make sure box is unchecked.
If you have any anti-virus programs like Norton, Macafee or AVG, disable them if you can, as well as any non-Windows firewall programs.
If you can remember recently downloading any other program that might interfere with system restore- anti virus or otherwise- then delete or disable that too.
