I'm on a mac and I moved my computer and printer to another building. Now my printer won't print. it says it's "offline" but everything seems to be plugged in. It doesn't show up in the device selector window. Can you help me? My printer is an Officejet J4680.

Thanks. The copier works, so i need to reinstall it. There's an icon in the Hewlett Packard folder called "HP Uninstaller" Do I click on that? Or do I need to find the original disk?

OK. I found the disk and installed it. Now I'm having problems on the set-up. It won't let me set it up by wireless network.

Check all the cables ..be sure the printer is powered well and on ...and if it is on USB ..change the port ..and try again ...cause it seams that it is not detected for some reason ..
If all seams to be the same ..and all seams in order in the same time ...remove it ...and delete the driver and software related with it ...after that reinstall it from scratch ..and see if it is detected ...
In your case I still suspect a cable problem cause no matter what ...if it is powered and on ..it should be detected in the device selector ..even if like an unknown device ..in case of a driver related...so ...probably during the movement the cable that connect it to the printer might be damaged or ...it is just not well plugged...(see on the printer side to be in the right place and well plugged)

You will first have to check that the printer is actually operational - unplug it from the mac and copy something. If it doesn't work then the printer is defective - most likely its power source failed and will have to be replaced
If it works then the driver got corrupted somehow - you will gonna have to reinstall it. And use a new USB cable plugged in another USB socket.

BTW if you can get the original install disk it would be better.

Sorry, went out. As the manual says you must set it up with the printed wired thru the USB connection.

Keeps saying printer is "offline", but still

Contact the printer customer service, they may need to install an updated driver (especially if the printer is a Lexmark).

My HP deskjet D4260 is offline. I have tried everything to resolve this but cannot find a way of etting it back online. Please help

Once you have added either a USB or networked printer to your PC or Mac computer, you can begin sending documents to print. However, on occasion, a print command will create an error on the printer and take it offline, which will prevent all future jobs from printing. To resolve this issue, you will need to change your printer settings from offline to online.
PC Instructions - Open the Start menu and click on the "Printers and Faxes" icon. This will open a window with a list of the printers currently set up on your computer. - Double-click on the icon of the printer you want to change to online. A pop-up window detailing all current print jobs will open. - Go to Printer in the menu bar of the pop-up window and uncheck "Use Printer Offline." This action will change the printer from offline to online.
Mac Instructions - Open System Preferences by clicking on the icon in the Dock. - Go to the Print & Fax control panel under the Hardware category. - Select the printer you want to take online from the list on the left side of the screen. Then click on the "Open Print Queue" button. - Click on the "Resume Printer" button at the top of the queue window to change the printer from offline to online.

My printer is connected, nut doesnt seem to work

Check whether the printer is in offline. Double click the printer icon in the bottom right of the screen (near time). Or double click your printer in the printers and faxes. Your printer job menu will open. Select printer and check whether use printer offline is ticked. If so, remove it. The another problem is your usb port number may be changed. check it in printer properties.

I have a Brother MFC 440 CN and it's telling my computers that it's offline, so I can't print. I've had other problems with it in the past, including 'Unable to Print' errors and an alignment issue with...

Try going to your control panel then to printers and reset the printer. After you reset the printer reboot the computer and it should work. if not you may have to delet and reinstall the printer on your computer.

Printer will not print from computer

Check your printer setup to make sure the printer is online, and not set to offline. If the printer has offline checked, remove the check by clicking on the checkmark to re-set it to online. Are print jobs building up in the print que?

HP Printer D7260 Printer error

i do not have areason for why the printer continuously goes offline but there is a way to put it temporarily back online. Go to printers in the control panel. right click on d7260 and click on use printer online. This only seems to work for one or two docs before you have to repeat the process.
