Question about HP Office Equipment & Supplies

1 Answer

I have an HP Photosmart 7550 printer. The color of the prints are washed out and have vertical stripes. The stripes are very close together. I have new toner cartridges and am using photo paper.

It looked better on plain paper. I changed the printer settings to HP photopaper glossy. The color is way too yellow and the striation is still there.

  • murphykm Oct 02, 2010

    It is on best.

The printer worked fine until a couple weeks ago. It has new cartridges, I use an old program Microsoft Picture It to edit the photos. This computer has Windows Vista. The pictures are in jpeg. The mystery is that nothing changed and it just quit printing well. Do they wear out?

Please try it on another paper type. You can print the same document or photo on a Plain Paper (regular paper). Sometimes this is related to print settings (printing preference), you need to select the appropriate paper type from the "Paper Type" [on the Printing Preference window]. For photo paper, select photo paper and so on...

Let me know the result of the print out.

Awaiting and Thanks.

Try the print quality with the "Best" mode (there should be three options on Print quality settings, wiz. Fast Draft, Normal and Best). Let me know the result.

Well, I have some more queries, what exactly are your printing? What is the file format? With what program are you printing? How old are the cartridges? What is the Operating System installed on your computer? Are the drivers updated?

If you are printing photos with texts, print only a photo or if you are doing with texts then print only photo.

If you are printing from Photoshop or any other photo editing software, try printing an image file by right-clicking the photo with the Windows printing wizard.

Sorry for the questions but I have no choice, and need to know all these.

Once I receive your update, I'll let you know what to do, so please don't ignore any question. Thanks.

There are several reasons, and I can't give you the specific solution since there are many steps to be taken to troubleshoot this. First let's uninstall the driver and reinstall it. After the driver and all the hp component softwares are uninstalled, restart your computer and follow the steps given here (click here). Actually this model's driver already comes with Windows Vista and it's not necessary to install. But I hope you still have the CD that came with the printer, use it when you reinstall it (if you are asked).

While installing, clean the print heads and the contacts on the cartridges and on the printer. Simply take a soft and thin swap/cloth dampen it with water (lightly) and place the heads on the cloth (do this gently and carefully, you may damage the printhead). Take a cotton bud, wet it with alcohol or acetone or spirit and clean the gold contacts of the cartridges and on the printer.

Some ink will spill on the cloth, leave them for few minutes (I guess there's no problem with the Black cartridge, if so, don't include it, you can clean the contacts, but no need to clean the head this time).

After they are dried and cleaned, reinstall everything. Now try printing again. You can print a test page:

    1. Click Start .

    2. Click Settings .

    3. Click Printers .

    4. Right-click the icon of the printer in use.

    5. Click Properties .

    6. Click the Services tab.

    7. Click Open the HP Photosmart Toolbox or Service this device.

    8. Click the Device Services tab. This tab does not display in Windows XP; proceed to the next step.

    9. Click Clean the Print Cartridges .

    10. Follow the onscreen prompts.

Let me know when you are done.

Yes, and there must be some more Printer's components. Anyway just uninstall the hp photosmart essential.... and then open device manager and uninstall the printer (to do this, open Device Manager by right-clicking the My Computer, select "Manage" and then on the left pane of the new window, click "Device Manager", again on the right-pane, locate printer and right-click the Printer's name, click "Uninstall").

    Good luck.

What paper are you using.
Use canon paper and EZphoto print .
Tou will be amazed .
These printers mix the 3 colors to make a black in photos.
So if you have shadows or black in the photos they will lack contrast

HP Photosmart 7550 - Full Page Photo Printing Jams at end

Normal 0 I suggest you get a sheet of Card Stock (Heavy paper) and place it in the feed way. Then press the print button applying a slight amount of pressure on the Card Stock so it will feed through the printer. The reason for this, is in some cases I have been able to clear the paper track of debris that was deposited there over time.
Worth a try, as I have fixed a number of printers this way, saving costly repairs.
Hope this helps. Bud

HP 7550 PhotoSmart Printer prints photos with an unpleasant green hue.

If it's a B&W or sepia photo, and you wanted to print B&W or grayscale anyway, pull the color cartridge (assuming a 2 cartridge system). I did that with my HP DJ 5440 and it works perfectly.

HP Photosmart 7550 printer

There are some print head cleaning modes you may want to try.
In your menus , look around for those and run the print head calibrations and cleaning procedures.
Also with the printer unplugged. Dampen an cloth with some rubbing alcohol and remove the print cartridges, lightly clean all the contacts with that damp cloth.
They may just have some ink on the contacts giving you a false failure message.
Hope this helps you out. They can be fickle.
