I have a GE Profile side by side refrigerator and it makes an annoying humming noise.  When I open the refrigerator door, it stops.  I think it is related to getting stuck in the express thaw function.  I will cycle through the express thaw settings to turn it off.  When I open the door, the 3.0 light is on and it constantly hums when the door is closed.  Can anyone help me solve this problem?  This refrigerator has been a big disappointment.

Fan is supposed to stop when the door is opened . Noise from the fan could be a bearing problem if it is a high pitched squeal. If this is the condition you have , replacing the evaporator fan should correct the problem. If the fan is sounding like a buz-saw the fan blade could be pushed in to far on its shaft, or it could be hitting an ice build-up in the blade turning area.

Thank you Mr. Guru. I follow your solution and the problem is fixed.
I removed everything inside the freezer and refrigiratoor then turn off the refrigirator for over 24 hrs. I believed all the ice which build up in the fan is completely melted. The fan run smooth now.
Thanks,

Freezer fan is noisey and can t find serial number

The number you will need is the model number. On side by side models there are a few places to look. 1- inside fridge on right or left wall. 2- Open fridge door and look up near the top front lip. 3- Open both doors and look on body of fridge under the doors. 4- Fridge door sometimes there is a sticker right when you open. Mostly you are looking for a silver sticker or silver plate. It gives you a model number and serial number. If you need further assistance please mail me back.

The freezer is making a loud buzz sound that stops when I open the door.

Could be the evaporator fan motor about to fail or the evap fan blade touching something. If the fan is controlled by a door switch, opening the door would deactivate the motor and the noise would stop. Depress the door switch and see if you can locate the exact source of the noise.

Buzzing sound

If noise stops when you open the door, you may have a noisy fan (or could have ice build up, causing fan blade to hit ice and cause noise). I gather it is a frost-free model ie has a fan in the freezer compartment. If noise is caused by fan hitting ice build up, you may have a problem with the auto defrost system, as you should not get ice build up in a frost free.
Noise stops when you open door because fan turns off when door is opened.

Noiseymotor

probably needs a bearing in the motor or it may have lost some of its oil

Loud whirring noise that stops when freezer door is open.

It is most likely your circulation fan in the freezer. Normally the fan stops when you open the door. It is a normal operation. Check to make sure that the fan is not blocked by frozen items or that the fan doesn't have an ice build up. On some models the fans stops when you open the door and starts a few minutes later after you close the door.

No water at door and evaporator fan noise

I had the same water problem. I found the answer on this forum.
The water line could be frozen in the door. Need to 'thaw' your door.
