Backup and reboot

If the OS won't load, remove the hdd, connect it with the USB convertor and copy the data files off to another disc. Then you can format with the system disc and start again.
If it will boot, save your data with a backup and then runs the restore programme in the OS.

Where can I get a recovery disc

Contact the laptop manuafacterer website for this. Most companies will implant the recovery disc ON THE HARD DRIVE when you buy a new laptop. That part of the hard drive is usually invisible, and can only be accessed by a special process you perform for recovery upon initial bootup. IF it is an older laptop, then you may have success ordering a recovery disc, if in fact, that laptop was originally sold with such a disc in its arsenal of parts when purchased

Recovery disc for vista

Exactly what is the problem? Why would you want to to a recovery back to factory settings and lose all your documents, music, pictures, videos and programs you've loaded since you purchased the computer?
You could try using a system disc and try booting from it to fix your problem. Better yet you could try doing a system restore which preserves all your documents, music, pictures, videos and programs. If you can boot into safe mode try system restore. Again I would need to know what kind of error you're getting or why you want to do a recovery.

try to use external dvd drive, then just load the recovery disc that are included when you purchased your laptop, but be careful coz once you have just load the recovery disc it might restore the whole system from the beginning so their is a chance that all of your files will be deleted. My suggestion is to ask help first to technical person to backup your files then after backup load the recovery disc. Just a thought hope it helps thanks.

did you go into the bios and change the boot order to boot to the cd rom first? Then it should boot to the disc. Otherwise you may want to use any xp/vista disc do the install dont insert a cd key then once windows boots up then put the disc in and try a recovery.
Thanks,

My pc is lock .my dauther try to many password

Some times the CAPS Lock key may be on, so please make sure that the CAPS Lock key is off.

If the issue still exists, I request you to perform the full system recovery using the recovery disks. To perform this full system recovery, you can use the recovery disks that you have created using the recovery partition.
Use the recovery discs to restore the PC by following the steps below:
1. Insert the recovery disc in the optical disc drive and start the computer.
If the computer is running, insert the recovery disc and immediately click Start and select Restart to force the computer to start from the recovery disc.
2. When prompted, Press any key to boot from CD or DVD, press any key on the keyboard.
3. Allow the recovery disc to start and load the required files while the Microsoft loading screen is displayed. It may take several minutes to load the required files.
4. When the HP Recovery Manager window displays, click Advanced options , System recovery , and then click Next to open the Recovery Manager.
5. Follow the on-screen instructions and perform the required actions.
NOTE: Do not interrupt the recovery process even though the computer may restart and the Windows desktop may display at various times.
· When prompted, follow the on-screen instructions to Backup the user files.
After performing the backup, when prompted, re-insert the recovery disc, and then click Next to continue the recovery process.
· A status box is displayed to indicate the status of the recovery and the estimated time remaining.
· If you used multiple discs when you created the personalized recovery discs, follow the prompts to remove the first disc and insert any requested discs.
6. When prompted to Insert the Supplemental driver disc , take one of the following actions:
· If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it included a Supplemental driver disc, insert the disc and click OK or Next . The recovery program checks the supplemental disc and installs the specific needed files.
After the Supplemental files are installed, a prompt is displayed to remove the Supplemental disc and insert the original recovery disc.
· If you purchased a replacement recovery disc from HP, and it did not include a Supplemental driver disc, click Skip or Cancel . The recovery program will ignore the request and install the next file on the recovery disc.
· If you created a personal recovery disc, press Next to continue.
7. Continue following the on-screen instructions to complete the recovery process.
NOTE: If you have not created a personal recovery disc, or the recovery disc fails or become corrupted, see HP Notebook PCs - Order Recovery Discs for Vista as your notebook is preinstalled with Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1.

New Hard Drive, system recovery problem

The systems disc is for the drivers and utilities, and, yes, there should have been two discs with the machine. The A45 is new enough that it should have come with an XP disc, not 98. I believe there was a mix up and you have the wrong disc. If you can get the operating system to load with the recovery disc you have, then you can get the drivers at the link below. Some two disc sets will not load an operational system unless you have both discs. Since you were running XP before, I don't think you're going to be happy with 98. I'm going to suggest that you purchase an XP disc, or contact Toshiba, and let them know that the wrong disc came with the machine, they might send you the right disc. If you do have to purchase an XP disc, simply load the system, then go to the link bellow and download the drivers. If you need any further assistance, feel free to ask.

Virus

I'm not sure where you were going with this, but I believe you can fix this yourself. Run a virus scan, then go into the virus vault in the anti virus software and empty the vault. If the virus did damage to the operating system, do a system restore. However if the operating system is damaged beyond repair or restore, you will need to do a system reload using either a recovery disc or an operating system disc. If you don't have these discs you can purchase a Windows operating disc at Walmart or Bestbuy.
