Plug a regular phone into the fax jack and dial an out of state long distance number. If you listen carefully, it will probably tell you that you have not selected a long distance carrier. For fun, you can also dial 1-700-555-4141 and listen to the "no pic" message. Now call someone and get an LD carrier.

I already have time warner for local and long distance. This new machine is replacing a machine that was already there. There is probably a set up problem, but i cant figure it out.

In any fax machine I have owned, there has NEVER been dialing restrictions. So now, it still goes back to the orignal question, "What happens when you put a regular phone on the line and dial out of state calls?"

TW Business class sells phone lines based on calling patterns and they tend to make fax lines in-state or local only. It just might be that they also restricted long distance by mistake.
That's why you need to use a regular phone on that line and test it yourself. The 2820 manual hos no "special" restrictions in the setup menu.

I cannot send to that area code. It is out of state. The fax dials the number but does not connect.

Please call TW customer support. Tell them exactly what is going on. ECM is fax-to-fax info that is only transmitted if BOTH machines have it. In your case, it's not getting that far, especially since you can't send to me and mine is just a run-of-the-mill fax server in Suburban Chicago. You either have a bad machine or it's still TW's problem. So, either exchange the machine, or deal with TW. Keep in mind that if your SECOND Intellifax does the same thing it IS Time Warner's issue.

Brother Intellifax-2820, will not print incoming faxes. It rings, says it's receiving data and thats it. Yes I have paper in tray. Sends and copies fine.

You need to make sure that your machine is set to "FAX" mode, not"PHONE"mode and that it is in "AUTO"receive, not "MANUAL"receive mode.

Whenever I send a fax on my brother intellifax 2820 it feeds crooked, I can not get it to go in straight. Therefore, the receiver only gets half the fax.

what you will need to do is go to a hardware store and purchase some isoprophyl alcahol. put some on a rag and clean the paper feed rollers if that fails there must be some in side that area like a peice of paper, try cutting a file folder to 8x11 in manually force feed thru a the paper feed section. good luck brother tech

Sending and receiving faxes on legal size paper.

There should not be a problem with TX on LGL paper. If you want to configure the machine to recieve LGL on a regular basis: Press "MENU" 1-3. Then use the up/down arrows to select LGL. "MENU", "EXIT". That should do it. Good luck!
