Question about SanDisk Sansa m240 MP3 Player

Sandisk when i connect mp3 player to PC it is asking to format but formating not completing . when i start the player a error message is coming" 8 Mb data is not updated" so please help me by giving a solution.

Format and then firmware upgrade

These are the most common methods for recovering Sandisk's Sansa Mp3 Players. I have been almost universally successful in recovering Sansa players using one or a combination of these methods. These methods do not work if you are having synchronization or music format issues - they are for recovering a player that will not power up, freezes, flashes, is not recognized by the computer, and a host of other issues.

Reset the Sansa Player first. On most models, restart is done by holding the power button in for 15 seconds or longer. Check your specific manual to be sure. The manuals are available from the Sansa website if they have been misplaced.
Download the Sansa Recovery Tool from the Sansa website.
Format - Erases Everything: Connect your Sansa player to the computer and open Windows Media Player. Click on the Sync tab. Pull down the drop down menu underneath the Sync tab by moving your cursor over the Sync tab and left clicking on the little black arrow underneath the Sync tab. Highlight "Sansa 1GB" (wording may vary slightly), and then select "Format." - this should erase everything.
Firmware Upgrade- Erases Everything: Get the latest firmware upgrade from Sansa - it updates the firmware and erases every song in the player all at once. Note: this method doesn't work if already have the latest firmware. Go to this website and click "Firmware Updater" to find out: http://www.sandisk.com/DriverDownload/driverList.asp
If these fail, then:
Try this: disconnect the player from the computer, turn it off, hold in the volume + button, and reconnect the player to the computer while holding the volume + button in. Keep holding the volume + button for an additional 5-50 seconds. Windows should eventually go into recovery mode and revive the player- it will pop up a window that says Found New Hardware Wizard.
If you get the problem where MTP Device keeps popping up continuously, uninstall the “MTP Device” by going to Start à Control Panel àSystem à Hardware à Device Manager (you computer may vary slightly, depending on Windows Version).
You may have to restart your computer after each of these methods to get them to work properly. Disconnect your Sansa player BEFORE shutting down your computer.

On page 30-31 it explains how to RESET the unit to the factory defaults. If nothing else, I believe that will clear your DB Error.

It isnt a fat or fat 32 player..It is a mp3 and or a wma player. And you could be missing the proper device driver depending on your computers os..Pre 2000? file compression file format

Sounds like you formatted your MP3 using windows explorer....in that case you need to reinstall the firmware on the device and once you do that...you should be able to transfer the songs to the device...

Well according to what is says you need to update the mp3 player so connect it to the computer and when you brought the mp3 player it should have come with some software, if it's installed good, no go into the software look for somewhere where it will say up date or something.

If this didn't work or no software was provided visit this site i've checked on here and it has your mp3 player drivers.

If you were still unsucessful the my final solution would be to connect it to your computer and format your mp3 player by going to "Start" - "My Computer" - Look for your mp3 player on there prefrably called "Removable Disk" once you've found it Right-click, then click on "Format". Once format is complete hopefully the problem will have been fixed.

This error message may largely be due to the corrupted Music Database file that the Sansa M240 creates to maintain an information pool on the music files downloaded to it. Normally, if you are unable to completely format the player in Windows Explorer, there are still 2 other (and actually, more recommended) options that you have: (1) Switching the M240 to MSC mode and formatting in "Disk Management". You can get to this window by right-clicking the "My Computer" icon and selecting "Manage". Make sure that you use the FAT file system to optimize the 1GB memory (2) Switching the M240 to MTP mode and formatting the player in Windows Media Player 10 or version 11. The mode of the M240 can be changed by accessing the menu and going to "Settings", then choosing "USB" In general, formatting the player in "Disk Management" is more effective than formatting it in Windows Explorer. Also, it would be a good idea to upgrade the player's firmware to the latest version via the SanDisk website: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1376 I hope this helps. I had the same problem In My Sandisk Sansa, and the way I fixed it is the following: Plug your player in your computer in MSC mode (On your player, go to settings, then USB and choose MSC) Then in "my computer", right-click on the player icon and go to "properties". In "properties" go to "tools" and in the first option, which is "error checking", click on "check now". In check disk options, check both "automatically fix file system errors" and "Scan for and attempt recorevy of ba sectors". It's going to take a few minutes (phase 1 and phase 2 will be displayed). Wait until it is complete. When it is done, close the "properties" window and right-click on the icon of the player and click on "format"! It should say format complete and the player should be then be ready to synchronize files again! Now Enjoy That Good luck!! From:-Javed(Taj)

Error message: Not enough space for music DB. Please free 4MB.


Hi I have just bought a Sandisk Sansa M250, we loaded som music on it and it lasted 2 hours, then it the message came "Not enough space for music DB please free 8 MB". I couldnt even go in to the menu. I contakted Sandisk.com and 24 hours after they came up with an answer. If it's currently frozen, hold down the power button for 20 seconds in order to soft reset it. Let's try to format the player (THIS WILL ERASE ALL FILES FROM THE PLAYER). Plug it into your computer, then open My Computer, right-click the drive associated with the player, and choose Format. It may give you a choice of file system, if so, choose FAT (it may only let you choose FAT32, which is fine). Now click on Start and it should format the player. If not already done, please also update the firmware from this link: http://www.sandisk.com/Retail/Default.aspx?CatID=1368 The 20 seconds on the power button didnt work, but the formation did.
