Question about Dryers

1 Answer

After 12 years, my dryer is not working. Could it be the pilot is just burned out, or do I need to just bite the bullet and buy a new dryer since mine is so old? I don't want to hire a repair person if what I really need is a new unit.

Good day,
From what you said, it appears you have a gas dryer. If it runs good and all other items appear good, then repairing it is viable.
It has no pilot. It could be an ignitor, gas valve coils, or one of the limit or control thermostats.
12 years isn't that old, since it has no transmission, clutch, basket drive or main tube seals as a washer does. You could fairly say it has reached about half life for a dryer. A very simplex machine.

Hooked up roper dryer and it's propane everything seems to be hooked up right but won't get hot or even heat up. This is first time ever having to use propane. Any idea what it might be or could have...

1.is the pilot light lite burning.
2. if pilot light light is on ,does the blue flame of the pilot light touch and heat up the thermocouple.
the dryer will not turn on the heat if the pilot flame does not touch and heat up the thermocouple.

3 is the dryer plugged in to the electricity.
4. is the dryer actually getting electricity.
If the dryer has electricity and the pilot flame is touching the thermocouple, then try buying and installing a new thermocouple.

****have you purged the air out of the gas lines so that the dryer is actually geting pure propaine and not just air getting pushed ahead of the propaine.

how old is your dryer, if new, warranty service will trouble shoot & repair for free.

you need to tell us more so that we have some facts to work with. vagueness does not cut it.

Any gas appliance that has been submerged or subjected to water, should be inspected by a certified gas heating technician. It's not a DIY project. In my own personal experience of having been in the supplemental gas heating appliance business for 15 years, 95% of all gas appliances that have been submerged in water are not safely salvageable. It's the unseen, that can come back to bite you.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Dryer thumping

It sounds like the rollers have gone bad. Its an easy fix. If you like the dryer a repair man can fix it cheaper than buying a new one. you may even be able to fix it. if you go sears.com and go to the parts section and put in your model number you can pull up a diagram to see how to take the dryer apart. you can also order the parts from there too. Good Luck.

You might remove the battery pack and try it on AC only; it's possible that the battery pack has died while it was not being used or recharged. If it does work without the pack, you can choose to make a permanent 'desktop' unit of it or bite the bullet and buy a new battery pack. If you buy a new one, shop the price; it can vary at least 2:1.
