Question about Epson CX3810 Stylus Color All-In-One Printer

1 Answer

My Epson cx3810 inkjet printer /scanner can no longer FEED cardstock (80# paper) It kicks & jumps but doesn't feed 9 times out of 10. when you press "contintue" after paper jam message- it goes all the way thru without printing. I have the paper setting on matte heavyweight. It prints fine on regular paper.

    i think so-

    this is a new package-Neenah classic crest-cover

this is a different color but both sub-80

    both smooth

old is code 03819 new is 03814

That sure isn't what I wanted to hear.
The card stock worked for about 2 years- lots of cards.
I think I remember having pulled out- from the top- a piece that was feeding lopsided- could I have damaged or misaligned something there?
Why would it have difficulty with envelopes,too- they certainly are not as thick or stiff?

thanks, I had an idea I would need a new printer- amazon is a good place-any suggestions on the best inkjet printer? I would like to keep it around $100.From my experience-top loading is better because the paper doesn't have to make a u-turn.

It could be as little as a millimeter too thick for the printer to grab. There are no particular settings you can change that would make it grab it or not grab it... so the fact that it is jamming indicates the paper is too thick. Is it possible to return the paper and get another form of the card stock? The printer is not really rated for card stock so I'm surprised it worked when it has in the past....

I would try a slightly thinner card stock and you will be good, sorry but there really is no other explanation...

Ah ok, in that case (this is the first I have heard about the envelopes) it would be misaligned rollers. It was probably the jam that caused them to get misaligned just as much as you actually removing it, you had no other choice then to remove it really, so it was unavoidable. But yes it sounds like it has thrown them out of alignment.. It can be repaired but is cost prohibitive to say the least. You may want to look into another one of these units and sell this one on ebay - mentioning that it has issues printing to cardstock but will print regular paper just fine. The majority of people only use printers for regular paper so that will definitely not be a drawback to most buyers.. If it were me that is what I would personally do. The new version of this printer can be had for around $105 online at this link I will provide, including shipping and no tax. As much cardstock printing as it sounds like you do, it will be much better to just get a replacement printer here... Plus the repair will easily cost $120 so it doesn't make sense to go that route.

Here is the link, give it a look here:

Paper fee picks multiple pages. Normal paper. Have tried all the different platen gaps. Help!

Epson printers use a set of rubber rollers to pick up the paper. Some paper can leave a slick deposit on the rollers, causing mis-feed. I spray some cardstock lightly with alcohol, and run it through several times (use the paper feed button) to clean that off.

Also, check the paper itself, if the sheets stick together, "fan" them before putting them in the printer.

Paper not feeding for epson nx400

Check the following:

  • If paper doesn't feed, remove it from the sheet feeder. Reload it against the right side, behind the tab, then press in the tab on the edge guide and slide it against the paper. Make sure the paper is not above the arrow mark inside the edge guide.

  • If multiple pages feed at once, remove the paper from the sheet feeder, fan the edges to separate the sheets, then reload it.

  • If the paper doesn't eject fully, you may have set the wrong paper size. Press the c:\users\home\appdata\local\temp\msohtmlclip1\01\clip_image001.gif Stop button, then open the scanner and remove the paper. Select the correct paper size when you reprint.

  • If it's wrinkled when it ejects, the paper may be damp or too thin. Load new paper.

  • Make sure you use new, smooth, high-quality paper, that is not curled, creased, old, or too thin. Make sure to load it printable side up.

  • Do not load paper with holes punched in it for insertion in a binder.

  • Make sure you load only up to the recommended number of sheets. If you're printing on both sides of the paper, try loading fewer sheets.

Paper type

Load up to
this many sheets

Plain paper

Approximately 120

Epson Bright White Paper
Epson Presentation Paper Matte

Epson Photo Paper Glossy
Epson Premium Photo Paper Glossy
Epson Ultra Premium Photo Paper Glossy
Epson Premium Photo Paper Semi-gloss

Epson Premium Presentation Paper Matte
Epson Premium Presentation Paper Matte Double-Sided
Epson Photo Quality Self-Adhesive Sheets
Epson Iron-On Cool Peel Transfer Paper

If the paper jams, do the following:

1. Gently pull any jammed paper out from the output tray or sheet feeder.

2. To eject the jammed paper, try turning the Epson Stylus NX400 off and then back on.

If that doesn't work and paper is stuck inside, turn off the Epson Stylus NX400. Open the scanner, remove the jammed paper and torn pieces, close the scanner, and turn the Epson Stylus NX400 back on.

Hello can you assist I can not figure out why the CX8310 Epson printer won't allow me to feed paper into it.

  • If paper doesn't feed, remove it from the sheet feeder. Reload it against the right edge, behind the tabs, then slide the left edge guide against the paper. Make sure the paper is not in front of the feeder guard.
  • If multiple pages feed at once, remove the paper from the sheet feeder, fan the edges to separate the sheets, then reload it.
  • Don't load too many sheets at once (up to 20 sheets of photo paper, 80 sheets of Premium Bright White paper, or 100 sheets of plain paper).

This was a long time ago but I hope you havent bought a new printer

You were right to think about uninstalling the printer, but you will have to follow the EPSON instruction to do it completely. I had a similar problem with mine.

    Paper won't feed into printer

I have taken a piece of cardboard, like the ones you get with a new shirt, size it to 8.5 x 11, and tell the printer to print a test page. hand feed the cardboard thru, and most times it will clean out the residual paper pieces stuck in the internal rollers. I have used this method several times and was successful 99% of the time. It isn't rocket science, but It may work. You will probably have to push the cardboard thru, but do not force it to much. It will not go thru easily on its own. Just a suggestion.

    Paper loading

Try this solution if this did not work then there is hard ware failure in the printer ...
    1. Turn the printer off and open the access cover.
    2. Look for any obstructions in the paper path and remove them if necessary. (It is possible to move the carrier assembly with the power off.)
    3. Turn the printer on, load some paper, and press the Form Feed button.
    4. Watch the paper as it feeds through and try to determine where the jam is occurring.
    5. Check to see if all the rollers are turning.

If all the rollers are turning, there may be something in the feed path that you can't see. Go to step 6.
If not, there is probably a feed motor or a gear problem and the printer may require service.
    6. If the paper is jamming under the carrier assembly, you may be able to fix it using the manual feed slot.
    7. Turn the printer off.
    8. Take a #10 envelope and feed it through the left side of the manual feed slot until it comes right through the printer to the back of the exit rollers.
    9. Move it up and down first, and then slowly move it over to the right side. If something is stuck under the black guide plate, this may work it loose.
