    Techman,

I'm a EE, know my way around boards and soldering, but don't have any schematics or prior TV-specific experience (flourescent lights and VFD's, no problem). Where should I look for vertical sweep circuit? I'm assuming that it's a ~25kV cap?

Also, any suggestions on where to get the part? I know there are lots of sites online, but I've never bought from any of them, so a personal recommendation always goes a long ways towards a shop's legitimacy....

    Thanks in advance,

    Nick

You have bad capacitors in the vertical sweep circuit. If you have no electronic repair experience, you will have to take the set into a repair shop as these parts are soldered into a printed circuit board and need to be tested with an ESR cpacitor meter. Good luck

Changed crt coolant, better picture. red squiggily line starting at top center of screen, runs about a third of the way down. thought i saw scratch or small crack in green crt "c" lens. would this cau

Sounds like you may have just left one of the wires loose from the red tube. Not likely an issue from the gren tube but you can always cover the top of the lens and let just green shine up. That may help narrow it down also.

Here is more detailed info for you also.....

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from TvRepairKits.com . It includes replacement coolant, step by step instructions, support, etc.

You have bad capacitors in the vertical deflection. And you will have to resolder the vertical IC as well. Replace the caps in the area of the vertical IC. Find a TV tech or hobbiest to do this!

I think you have a fault on the picture frame board. If you can check for this yourself or find a competant technician. Hope this helps.
