Change the coolant in the CRts and the color and clarity will be restored. This is a common problem with phillips CRTs the coolant gets cloudy and needs to be replaced.

I would call around and try to get a repair estimate to change the coolant in the CRTs. Which part of the country do you live in?

Dark, fuzzy picture

The fluid in the CRT bulbs is most likely cloudy. Check the blue to see if fluid is clear. If fluid is clear, then likely your flyback transformer is failing. I assume you already check the brightness and contrast settings on the tv.

Philips 46 in rear projection tv has too much green. The bulbs are good but adjusting the color does not help.

this models have coolent issues. I would tke off the front screen very carefully , as it may seperate , get a friend . Do not scrach the screen. then look down inside the units CRT's (Cathode Ray Tube) and see if its cloudy or fuzzy looking . While there look at the blue tube as well. If its fuzzy replace the coolent.

Red and fuzzy picture can you help on my 50 inch phillips magnavox projection TV

This is a very common failure on Projection TV sets.
Screen looks 3D
Colors don't line up
One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
Screen is bowed or warped.
The other common problem is cloudy lens fluid. After many years the coolant in the blue and green lens will become cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, bright white, etc. You may even see halos around video.
You can see some example photos and find a solution here on Fixya.

We are using the 55 rear tv to display our logo for a talk show.

I assume you purchased the tv in the current condition you are describing. Philips are notorious for having cloudy glyconol coolant. The coolant is situated in a chamber between the light tubes and the lenses and is required in order to keep the tubes running cool or they would otherwise crack from the excessive heat from the light tubes. The coolant normally becomes corrupted in the blue tube first, with the red and green tubes following closely behind it. The Video that is able to project through the cloudy coolant causes a picture that is washed out, fuzzy, and can even cause rainbowy colors depending on how many chambers are cloudy.

If you want further proof that the glyconol is corrupted, you can have someone remove the rear cover and take off the lenses from the light tubes so you can see directly into the coolant chambers to determine which ones are cloudy. Replacing the coolant is an involved process. You should attempt to return the tv to the sales person for a full refund if possible and explain the tv is not okay as he said.

Fuzzy picture

Projection TV tubes have a liquid coolant that is used to keep them from overheating. After many years the coolant in the blue and green tubes will become  cloudy and cause the screen to look dull, red/orange, etc. You may even see halos around images.

What you will need to do is replace the coolant and clean the crt. You can get a repair kit from that includes replacement coolant, photos. instructions, etc.
