Re: on apples website
If you have a Mac computer, then that firmware should be fine - make sure that you only use the firmware on the page for your exact model of iPod - if you use the firmware for a different model IPod, it will mess up the player. Call Apple's help line if you run into snags.
a 6ya Technician can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repair professionals here in the US. click here to Talk to a Technician (only for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need. Goodluck!

There is one solution for this, but (it sucks I know) it deletes all your music, phots, etc.
So be sure that you have a sync (wich you can't make when your iPod is locked)
So the solution is:
Plug your iPod into your pc or Mac.
Click (on the left of your screen) on your iPod
And let it do it's thing
Well, I hope I helped you, please let me know.
Go to the apple website at www.apple.com/itunes and download itunes (freely available for PC and Mac). Once intstalled it will allow you to access the ipod when you connect the ipod to your computer. You will then be able to download updates for the ipod. Also it will allow you to add music and other things.
Maybe radical but this worked for me. My computer-select ipod,Right click and format disc (fat 32) Once refomatted plug in to computer and start Itunes. Click on Restore to factory settings, At the end of that you will need to plug it briefly into an ac outlet. Reconnect ti computer and start Itunes. Sync with library. This worked for me after trying everything else I could fine failed.
My error when I ran diagnostics said "one or more sync tests failed."
