The water valve is staying on too long. This can be the water valve itself or the icemaker. Typically this will be the water valve but if the motor is hanging druing the fill cycle it can run too much water.

My ice freezes as a block when dispensed into ice tray

There are water level adjustment screws behind the plastic cover of the ice maker to adjust the water level when it refills after dumping a tray of ice. When there is to high of a water level it spills over onto the cubes freezing them into a big block. Try to adjust the level of water. There is a arrow which tells you which way to turn the screw to get a smaller fill fixing the problem.

Our ice maker makes hollow ice cubes. Why?

Your icemaker is not getting enough water to adequatly fill the tray. Before you adjust it, check the status of the refrigerator's waterfilter. If it's old and clogged replace. Next, wait for the tray to fill, and check the level water before it has a chance to freeze. (or take the frozen tray out and allow to thaw). The tray should be about 75% or more full of water. If not, there is an adjustment that can be made to extend the amount of time the solenoid stays open (which means more time for the water to fill the trays). Good luck!

Pipe that feeds ice maker is broken. How do I repair and where do

Check the water valve, it might be leaking water slowly into the icemaker tube. Turn off icemaker. Disconnect .25" tubing from the icemaker fill tube in the back of the refrigerator. shake some water off the .25" tubing, mark the current water level on the tubing, then leave it for 5 min or so, and check it again. If the level has risen - replace the water valve. If the level is the same - replace the fill tube, it may have some sediment buildup, which causes the water drops to remain in the tube after the icemaker fillup.

Good luck.

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator with an ice maker and when the icemaker is filling with water it leaks from the front of the tray into the ice storage bin.

1. icemaker is not level. (check and re-level)
2. icemaker has a crack in the mold.(replace i/m)
3. Water level set too high.(remove front cover and adjust water level screw counterclockwise)

Ice cubes stick together as though too much water is coming into tray. Is there a valve or something to control amount of water coming in?

yes their is a water valve , 2 things it could be your valve or you i/m. the i/m tells the water valve to fill for about 6-9 seconds if the icemaker is bad it could be telling it to fill for 10 seconds instead of the normal time and overflow the icemaker ,or the water valve also called solenoid could be bad and at not stopping at the desighned time. i dont have your model # to go much furthur but you can remove the cover in the front of the icemaker and see if you see an icemaker water level adjustment screw, newer ge and frigidaire ref. cannot be adjusted, however wpl, maytag, and older ge ref can be and older frg.try adjusting water level at icemaker first .

The fridge is not making ice but instead water pours out

If water is overfilling the icemaker, and you have an older style icemaker, you can adjust the fill switch on the icemaker.
Pop off the front cover of the icemaker and you will see an adjustment screw attatched to a lever. Adjust the screw so the lever goes toward the - symbol. This will shorten the amount of time the water valve turns on to fill the icemaker. If the lever is centered between the + and - symbols, turn it about 1 turn toward the -. If it is more toward the + side, adjust it to the center. It may take a few adjustments before you get it filling correctly.
If it is a newer style electronic icemaker there will not be any adjustment on it.
If you will post the model number I will try to look it up and see what kind of icemaker set-up you have.

water pressure is fine but is the icemaker getting the right amount of water? the biggest cause of hollow cubes is as you know is low water pressure. another thing is check that the i/m is level allowing water to go all teh way to the head of the I/m. If you can dip your fingers in teh very fron cube mold and verify that water is getting all teh way there.
The sensor for mold temperature is at teh fron housing so that is why its important for water to get there or else it will sense water actual freezer temp instead of water/ice temp.

Water runing down back side of icemaker and forming icicle.

If it is running down the back of the icmeaker then you need to make sure the inlet tube is properly installed into the fill cup on the icemaker. If the tube is in the right place then your icemaker fill level needs to be adjusted.

Sub-Zero 685 Ice Maker Problems

There are 2 important things to be aware of with these icemakers. One is that they need to be completly level, both side to side and front to back. Second, the fill on these icemakers should be right about 100 milliliters. Get a measuring cup with Ml markings and pull out the icemaker. Fast forward the icemaker by jumpering the little test terminals behind the square cover. You need to connect the terminals labeled T for thermostat and H for heater together with a piece of wire. Be careful, as there is 110 volts to these terminals. Keep the wire there for about fifteen seconds, then pul it out or the icemaker will get really hot. Just as a note, for all this to work the icemaker must be plugged in, turned on , and you must hold down the switch that is pushed by the bucket. If there are no test terminals on the icemaker, then you can just fast forward it by pushing the fingers around in a clockwise direction looking at it from the square end. Anyways, once you get it moving, put your measuring cup under the fill tube and wait for the fill cycle. the water should be very close to 100 ml (range is 90-120ml). If your fill is correct, and the icemaker is PERFECTLY level, then make sure the fill tube is inserted all the way into the icemaker. Hope you can wade through all this for an answer. Good Luck!
