Question about Goldstar Refrigerators

Refridg. compartment warm

I have a much loved GR 3533 CRI
Yesterday made up several large-quantity dishes for the week, and put them in the refrigerator compartment probably still too warm. This morning the compartment is warm. My fault. I’ve taken the food out. Should I turn off the motor a while and let it recuperate. Or put it on max. Or is it dead. Or other. Any help much appreciated.

You may have a problem other than in the refrigerator compartment.
I am in the U.S.A. and am unfamiliar with some of the brands posted on this forum. However designs of refrigerator freezer combinations have a basic relationship. Check your freezer compartment for a frost sign on the back wall. If frost is present on the back wall a defrost problem is evident. This type of problem can be related to a defrost timer, defrost heater or defrost thermostat. If you can located the defrost timer and rotate the dial clockwise SLOWLY until you hear one click. This will put the refrigerator into the defrost mode. After a time event of 18-22 minutes the compressor should restart. After 25 minute if it does not start advance the timer dial SLOWLY one more time and the compressor should start.

Frost buildup


POSSIBLY faulty door seals allowing outside moisture to enter freezer compartment. This is especially prevalent in older units and/or tropical climate zones [ie high humidity] ... OR if freezer is OVER-LOADED with food items !!!
If you are putting in large quantities of fresh produce to be frozen it is quite often better to PRE-COOL all the items in your refrigerator PRIOR to placing in your FREEZER as they will usually have a high moisture content which will cause frost build-up in your freezer ...

all have a filter... check behind the front grill on the bottom if you dont see it in the refridg compartment. they were hidden in several places but all accessible from front of machine

OK check the Thermistor, the actual temperature sensor element, and or thermostat if it uses a separate feed.

Airflow around the condenser grill is very important. So you should take off the front grill and vacuum out that area the best you can.

Since this is a gradual warming trend you might have ice build up on your evaporator coils (usually means that defrost circuit malfuntioning). If you remove the food, shelves and back panel of your freezer section, you will be able to see if there is ice build up. If there is, unplug the unit and then use a hair dryer to melt the ice. Make sure you are ready to deal with the ice melt with either spongs and bucket or a wet/dry vac.

So, recently my power was knocked out by a storm. It was out for about a week. We kept our refrigerator cold by not opening it and putting bags of ice inside. When my power was reinstated, the fridge...


All that ice melted and the water ran down under the refridg into the motor compartment. If lucky there may be a pan in there for small amounts of moisture...but in this case you probably over filled it.
You will have to get behind fridge at the bottom, remove the small panel near the floor & look & clean it out.

it is probably condensation from the shiny plastic drawers.i put a piece of kitchen roll under mine once a week...

Water on floor


I had this problem with our 2 door frost-free LG fridge (model GR-B207EC). Perhaps you also notice a regular ice buildup in the bottom of the freezer compartment?

My solution was to switch off the fridge and unplug it from the wall, unload the freezer compartment and remove the white plastic back panel inside the freezer compartment. The panel has arrows marked around the edges where the catches are that hold it in place. Carefully flex out the panel at the catches using a large flat blade screwdriver if necessary. Ice buildup can make removal of this panel more difficult.

Behind this back panel is a condenser, under which is a silver tray, which is designed to catch the drops which fall from the condensor (this is the 'frost-free' part of the fridge). I found mine solidly frozen with ice and used a low-heat setting on a heat gun to melt the ice. In the absence of a heat gun a hair dryer will work fine, but don't melt the plastic components of the fridge. (It is also unadvisable to chip away ice with a knife of other sharp implement as you can easily slip and damage yourself or the fridge).

After fully defrosting the tray (this will take some time), including the drain hole in the base of the tray (pour a small amount of warm water in the tray and make sure it drains readily), reassemble the fridge components and restock your fridge. Remember to plug it back in and switch it on.

No more water leaks.

As an alternative to this fix ... if you have the luxury of being able to transfer the contents of your fridge to another fridge and not have to use the leaky one for a while ... empty the fridge and freezer, unplug it from the wall, leave the doors open for a week in a warm location. I didn't use this method but I reckon a week would be long enough to defrost the ice buildup behind the back panel of the freezer and allow the water to drain, yielding the same result.

Ice cubes made by ice maker become large fused chunks over time.


Ice cubes will deteriorate over time if not used. They shrink due to defrosting of the freezer and will become stale.
Once the ice bin is full, turn the ice maker off until you use the cubes and or dump the cubes every 3 or 4 days and start over.

Have Maytag side by side refrig. mod. MSD2556AE and after running several weeks the food compartment starts warming up but freezer stays cold. Can turn frig. off overnite and will work ok for several more...


the notorious Adaptive defrost did it again (lol) verify the condition of the heater putting a voltmeter on the "beeping" feature if it beeps its good.

Replace the Adaptive Defrost board and defrost thermostat and should work like a charm
