Question about Estate TEDS840JQ Electric Dryer

1 Answer

I just bought this dryer from a friend, it is 4 years old. It was working perfect at her home, but, when I got it to my house and turned it on, I noticed it was 'thumping' when it rotated, like a rolled up pair or sox was being dried. It also terribly wrinkled a sweater I had on 'fluff' for 5-10 minutes

You have two problems with your Dryer...
ALWAYS UNPLUG YOUR DRYER BEFORE STARTING ANY REPAIRS
#1 Problem...A blocked vent will not allow the articles being dried to dry properly and cause them to wrinkle.
Check to make sure your vent hose is clean of lint and also that the machine is also clean of lint to prevent the heating coil from going faulty.
#2 Problem
Your problem sounds like drum rollers have flat spots on them or in need of lubrication.

Note: This method works with most front loading machines.

Remove the electrical console that holds the timer switch, start switch, etc. from the top of the dryer.
Note: Some tops hinge and tilt backwards so they do not have to be removed and the electrical consol with stay with the lid.
Also remove the lint filter and the screws holding the lint filter housing in place.
Be REAL CAREFUL not to knock any of the wires off of the timer switch. Then remove the top of the dryer.
Remove the front of the dryer. This will expose the drum and belt. Remove the drum and belt and this will expose the drum rollers, idler arm pulley and motor.
Now is a good time to check the belt to see if it has slipped off of the idler arm pulley and also to check the belt condition for wear.
Be sure to note the route of the belt, this will come in handy when you go to reinstall the belt.
Check your drum rollers for flat spots or wear, if they have flat spots or wear on them replace them.
If the drum rollers don't have flat spots or wear on them then they probably only need lubrication. Lubricate the shaft of the rollers with a good grade of machine oil such as 3 in One oil. Reassemble the dryer, plug back in. This should solve your noise problem.

You wrinkles can be cause by a plugged vent hose or the dryer may be plugging with lint. If the lint is not cleaned out it can cause fire, and also cause your heating element to overheat if the thermostats fail. Not drying properly can cause the wrinkles you describe.

I've a hoover apollo delux dryer still working well 5kg, 19 years old. Would like to know energy rating as giving it away to a friend.

The energy rating for this dryer is 1.5 stars. Of course it depends on the condition of the dryer and how well it has been maintained.
Does the hot air coming out of the front vent smell scorched or burnt? If so, you need to get the back off, clean out all the lint inside there. Then remove the drum, then remove the heater element carrier off the back of the drum. Its the only way you can clean all the lint out from around the heater element. After 19 years, its going to be needing it.
Please don't pass the dryer to your friend without having it properly cleaned out as described. Don't give your friend a fire hazard. Dryers cause house fires, don't risk it please.

Our Whirlpool Senseon Dryer stopped heating. It's

I had the same problem. I replaced the thermistor, heating element and another part and still didn't correct problem. i finally had a friend come check it and believe it or not it was the 30 amp fuse in my fuse panel of the house.Come to find out the dryer will run and everything works like it should on 1/2 of the 220 plug but the other half runs the heating element. Both fuses must be good. I replaced the 30 amp round fuse and it works and heats perfect. I hope this helps you and saves you some time and money.

Plug dryer in wall wont start

The most obvious thing to me is that the cord may have been loosened or damaged by the move, or the terminals in the machine may have loosened. Either test the cord on your "new" machine, or replace it with a known "good" cord. Wait a minute....you already have one of those....
Try it, it may be the very thing!

Your prof. vent cleaner failed to do his job. Ther is a definite restriction in the vent from point A to B, The prof is in the test u performed. You need a straight shot from the dryer to the outside using a class A 4"vent line and a dryer exhaust hood at the termination point, then your problem will be resolved...
