A bar magnet is permanently magnetic, thought not usually especially strong. An electromagnet is caused to be magnetic while energised by a power source. Many bar magnets are created by being subjected to an electromagnetic field.

My Oreck platinum vacuum shuts off after a couple of seconds. Whenever I turn it on it works for 2 seconds then shuts off, any help?

Atek,
You may have received the wrong beater bar for your machine. Some of the Oreck's have an electronic sensor that detects the brush speed and the way they do that is to put a magnet embedded into the brush roll. Turn your vacuum over and spin the brush by hand and look for a metal dot about 1/4" in diameter. It should towards the end opposite of the belt. If you do not see that metal dot, you need to take the brush back to where you bought it and ask for the correct brush. If you ordered online then call them up and ask for a swap. Hope this helps!

Kirby vacuum-The beater bar is turning, but the light is not on. Is something else wrong?

Check to make sure the magnet on the roller is on the side with the coil (this activates the light). You may have installed the roller with the wrong ends in the opposite sides.

Green light kirby vacuum

The green light does not affect the performance of your vacuum. There is a small magnet in the brush roll that makes the light glow to show you the brush is spinning properly. If your light worked before you took the vacuum in for service you can look at the brush roll to see if it has been installed properly. The magnet should line up to spin at the spot where the green light is. If the brush is not installed properly or the wrong brush roll is installed the magnet will not line up with the green light.

I have a DC24 multifloor exclusive. My brush bar is not stable and melting the plastic. I need to know if there is a pin or screw on the side that is missing to stabilize the bar.

There are usually 2 bushes on the end of the brush bar, which are shaped so they can only fit in one way. They have a small metal bush inserted into the plastic fitting. Perhaps this has slipped down the brush metal rod. Has it melted the dyson as well as the brush? If you have to replace the brush bar, eBay sell them, the kit comes with 2 different type of ends depending on the model. Putting the new brush bar in is a bit of a stretch, you have to turn it as you are pulling the band tight over the brush until it is lined up. Good luck.

My car toyota celica will not move from park to drive? The automatic shifter is stuck even after pressing on the break

GPS SYSTEMS HAVE A TENDENCY TO LOSE CONNECTIVITY TO SATILLITES BECAUSE OF BAD WEATHER, CLOUD COVER, TUNNEL ENTRANCE, BAD OR NO POWER, BATTERY LIFE HAS BEEN EXPENDED, HAZARD OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE TO GPS SYSTEMS, AND IMPROPER VEHICLE MOUNTING AND HAND HELD POSITION. FREE SOLUTIONS 1. ALWAYS PLACE YOUR GPS DEVICE IN THE UPPERMOST PORTION OF YOUR VEHICLE SO THAT THE GPS SIGNAL MAY EASILY LOCATE YOUR DEVICE EVEN WHEN THE WEATHER IS BAD 2. KEEP YOUR BATTERY CHARGED ONLY WHEN IT NEEDS IT MOST AND AVOID CHARGING OFTEN 3. IF YOU OVERCHARGE YOUR GPS DEVICE, YOU WILL EXPERIENCE BATTERY LEAKAGE, WHICH CAN EAT AWAY AT YOUR CLOTHING, DESTROY YOUR DEVICE IN SECONDS, AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR VEHICLE SEATS 4. YOUR GPS DEVICE HAS A TENDENCY TO FREEZE BECAUSE OF THE SIM AND MEMORY CHIPS LOCATED WITHIN IT 5. YOU CAN FIX THE FREEZING PROBLEM BY REMOVING THE SIM CHIP AND MEMORY CHIP AND RESTARTING YOUR SYSTEM 6. OTHER FREEZE PROBLEMS OCCUR BECAUSE THE DEVICE IS COLD WHEN IT IS KEPT IN THE VEHICLE AND CHIP CREEK OCCURS WHERE THE DEVICES MICROCHIPS BECOME LOOSE AND TIGHTEND BECAUSE OF WARM AND COLDER AIR FLUCTUATIONS. IT IS BEST TO KEEP THE DEVICE IN A PURSE OR ON A TABLE WHERE IT IS NOT SUBJECT TO CONSTANT TEMP. CHANGE 7. PREVENTION OF ELECTROMAGNETIC INTERFERENCE IS BEST SOLVED BY: interference from devices located nearby, and even a radio turned on and located really close to your unit. This is normally known as electromagnetic interference to electronics and is very common

Beater bar will not turn

It's most likely that the belt that drives the beater bar has failed. You will need a model number and a brand name to find a replacement for it. Most appliance stores that sell vacuum cleaners will have the part. They are all different sizes but most are about half an inch wide.

Beater bar in my dirt devil vision wobbles around the center shaft. Took of beater bar and it sounds like sand in it when shaken. Can this be disassembled?

from your description, if your beater bar was wobblying, ther may be more damage to the base of the vac than initially seen. Dirt Devil has different number of warranties in number of years for thier vacuums. I would check with your nearest dealer. Lookup at dirtdevil.com

I have a windtunnel 2 vacuum. It sucked up a cord that wrapped around the beater bar. Now the bar won't turn. There was no smoke or sign of something burning. The motor still runs and there is suction but...

Check the actual beater bar for movement. I have seen the plastic melting, and bearings seized under such circumstances. Also I am unsure by your question, but the motor that creates the vacuum (sucking) is different than the motor that spins your beater bar, so make sure that both motors are operating. (there is usually a small switch in the bottom that turns this motor off when the handle is in the upright position) Hope this helps

Weak pick up power

that's true!!! you've take that for granted because metal strips such as the hair clip will tend to deteriorate the engine power. Since the turbine of your vaccum cleaner uses dynamo to provide for spin and it has supply electromagnetic charge. Since there's a metal that has picked up, it will absorb the magnetic power of dynamo causing your engine to malfunctioned step by step.. Better check the engine to a liscensed technician to repair the problem.
