Question about Canon PowerShot A520 Digital Camera

1 Answer

I think I'm going to explode if I hear one more "worn out battery" explanation for what seems to be a pretty common complaint. This is my 3rd camera...all ending up with the same problem. I've had the Canon Power Shot A570 for less than a year. Someone suggested changing the settings...but even with brand spanking new batteries, I can't even get it to last long enough to get into the settings. There is clearly a problem here that has NOTHING to do with the blasted batteries.

With respect, we're volunteers giving up our own free time to try and assist folks who post angry rants without providing sufficient info to enable a useful answer. I've looked at your profile and can see no other questions which you have posted about this issue, so the advice you're so annoyed with does not appear to be from us.

There are batteries and there are batteries. It doesn't help that the A570 is known to eat batteries for breakfast and also has a uselessly pessimistic low battery warning which cuts in hundreds of shots too early to be of any use. I suggest that you state EXACTLY which batteries you use. The original AA's supplied with the camera from new are utterly useless except for initial demonstration purposes. Rechargeable NiMH and disposable lithiums are the only AA's which you should use. Alkaline and zinc-carbon give near zero life before the voltage drops too low and NiCads should never go anywhere near the unit.

Once you've checked that you're using the correct batteries and have calmed down a bit, perhaps you'd like to share with us exactly what the problem is and what other cameras the identical fault has affected, because, believe it or not, I really do still want to devote my own spare time to assist you with no obligation on your part of any kind.

OH ! The comment was not directed at anyone specific...just a general frustration at the bulk of 'solutions' posted anywhere. I had to re-read my comment to see if I had inadvertently suggested or implied that I thought anyone here was at fault, I was speaking in general terms...after reading numerous sites dealing with the same issue.

Sounds like you have a faulty board in the camera or it could be something as simple as a software upgrade, I know some of the Fuji Hine Pix had the same problem and it was the software. Take it back to the Canon.

This is common to the AW70 transmission when the rear bushing has been left very worn for a period of time. The rear shaft wear heavily on the main transmission housing causing the pressure not to build enough to engage the overdrive gear.

There could be multiple reasons for this. Is the volume at maximum? Were all audio hardware fully plugged in? It is possible the audio jack for this device may be worn down or damaged.

After looking at common opinion regarding this device, it would seem that a lot of people had complaints about it having low volume, perhaps this is a defect from Coby.

My nokia 6111 screen goes blank

It is not a common problem. It seems that either the connection to the LCD is broken somewhere, or the LCD is going or the display IC has gone. It it is the last (display IC) then the phone has to be thrown away as even Nokia thinks it beyond economic repairs. Earlier two can be rectified by Nokia Care.

Although BlackBerry is a fairly reputable company, the complaints that you describe above are quite common, and most without fixes.
If you want a BlackBerry, consider the 8220 BlackBerry Flip. Better predictive text engine and none of the complaints you mentioned above. I think those are available well within your price range if you're willing to do a new two year agreement.
