Question about Maytag Washing Machines

Agitator is not turning and after a minute of running it will start to sqeel. Have cleaned out pump and hose running to pump. Did notice the motor is on a base and has some play in it, should it be stationary or move back and forth?

Hello switchwitch, There several parts that could cause this problem. #1 a drive belt has weakened, #2 the Agitator bearings or cushions badly worn, #3 the motor may have rubber supports gone bad. As "Number 5" stated "More Input" , Please provide the model

The splines are usually plastic or rubber nubs on a cylinder that fits over the agitator shaft. If the nubs wear down, the shaft will not turn properly or it will turn weakly. If the agitator is moving in only one direction, the likely cause is the clutch assembly. The clutch has dogs that depress and pop up with each turn. Various makes and models differ in how the agitator is removed. In some newer models, the agitator just lifts straight up and out. However, in most models you will have to preform a combination of the following steps. First remove the fabric softener dispenser, if any. It should either lift or screw off. Next remove the cap. It may lift off, screw off or failing that, it may need to be pried off.

Beneath the cap some agitators are secured in place by a bolt. Use a socket wrench with an extension to remove that bolt. Some Maytags may have a screw near to the bottom of the agitator post that must be removed. Now try to lift the agitator straight up, possibly with a little back and forth rocking motion. Use caution when pulling, the agitator may come loose suddenly and hit you in the face or send you flying backward.

If the agitator is particularly stubborn, you can loop some rope under one side of the agitator at the bottom and then up over a broom handle. Now loop it again under the other side of the agitator and back up to the broom. Brace one end of the broom handle against the top of the washer and lift up on the other end. Double check that you have removed anything that may be securing the agitator in place. Do not use too much force or you may damage the washer cabinet, agitator or injure yourself.

Water pump is makeing a squeeling noise, I want to dissassemble it to see if something is inside the pump

The noise was indeed coming from the water pump. To clean the pump on this top-loader you have to unplug it, pop the top open, and remove the front face of the cabinet to expose the motor and pump. Slip off the two metal clips hugging the pump to the motor. Place a towel under the motor before detaching the hoses - there's a plastic drip pan between the pump and motor to guide the water away from the motor. Unclamp the two hoses from the pump by squeezing their spring-clamps with pliers and sliding them further down the hose. Pull the hoses off by lifting the pump off its axle and pulling it out while wiggling the hoses loose. I found a small sock jammed in the pump - it must have fallen to the outside of the basket but inside the drum during the last spin cycle, and went down the drain hose. Check the pump for damage and replace if necessary.Always remember that a clogged pump causes squealing, diminished spin speed, and slow drainage.
However Open the washer lid to gain access to the agitator. Depending on your model, lift the fabric softener dispenser off the top of the agitator. Some models only have a cap that lifts off the top.
Remove the barrier cap and the o-ring by pulling them out with your hands. Inspect the o-ring for damage and wear. Replace it if necessary when reinstalling the agitator.
Remove the bolt that attaches the agitator to the clutch in the middle using a socket wrench. Lift the agitator out of the washer. Some models, like Maytag, have a flex vane agitator which requires it to be lifted off bell housing. This is accomplished by inserting two screwdrivers opposite each other between the tub and the agitator. Lift up to remove from the bell housing.
Turn the agitator over to reveal the cogs that are in place. Remove the cogs from the agitator by snapping them out.

Having trouble with my 1974-78 outboard marine engine


Just an idea but your water pump is only rubber and setting for the winter it didnt stick to the sides of where it pumps did it.. sometimes these pumps are tempermental.. you might check your water pump again making sure its pumping right.. is it peeing out the sides good like it is suppose to ? also if its getting hot on top it makes me think the pump is not doing its job right maybe just pumping some.. not enough? just a thought .. thanks Jerry

First thing is belt broken? If not try this, unplug washer for two minutes, plug back in, open and close lid seven times slowly, this will reset the computer and the electronic motor.
