My TV is an RCA 20F420T and will turn on and off by itself. Started right after the warranty ran out and slowly at first now is continuously off and on. Is there a simple solution/fix to try? We bought the RCA because it seemed to have a better picture, etc. not knowing it was junk - we've had a couple of Sanyo brands that have lasted for years with no problems (and more use!) I will NEVER buy another RCA.

I have the same problem. This TV isn't that old ... it may not even be one year. The TV keeps turning off when you are watching it ... every few minutes. It even turns on sometimes by itself.

I have installed a new flyback (power transformer) per the recommendation of this site and it didn't solve the problem. All the soldering was done properly and when I went to power it back up the green light turned on and the unit it just made a little clicking sound about three times and then just turned off. Puzzled! any other suggestions?

I have a a larger version of the same TV and it just today started turning itself on and off. If you turn it on, it turns off as well. It's three years old. This sucks.

Tv is three years old. Turns itself on and off every 30 seconds or so. This blows.

My TV has recently started turning itself off (RCA TruFlat). It's nearly two years old. Keeping it turned off for an extended time seems to let it turn on, but only for a short while (~30-45 minutes).

I can't really afford to buy a new TV right now, so a fix would be helpful.

We have the same problem as so many other people with the RCA Tru FLAT........turns itself off unannounced!!!!!!!!!!! We vacuumed the dust from the rear vent area seemed to help some,.....maybe a heat build up problem??? I thought I'd try taking it out side tomorrow and blowing it out with my compressor!!!

I have an RCA TruFlat screen tv 27" model number 27f520t.It is about 3 years old. It's been a second tv so it has not been used that much. About a week ago the tv was turned on and it shut it off all by itself!!!!!! I turned it back on and it did the same. I took the back cover to look for dust ect. Everythink looked ok. Any ideas what the problem might be?

  • jkj917 Jan 22, 2009

Wow...I had no idea that this on/off thing was relatively common. I just started experiencing this problem about three or four days ago. I initially blamed my 4 year old daughter for playing with the remote. I suspect that it could be getting ready to conk out. I'll try the blow dryer trick. Hopefully, that'll work. Thanx all.

i have the same problem, mine will turn off after running for about a half hour. I will never buy another RCA product. I've tried everything, they're pieces of c--p, if someone has a real solution to this problem please post it

  • donkeydung Mar 03, 2009

I unfortunately have this tv and this problem, mine stays on for 10-20 minutes and then shuts off by itself, if I turn it on without waiting a while it immediately goes off. If I wait a long while I get another 10-20 minutes. I tried blowing condensed air through it, but this didn't fix anything. Problem started like four days ago out of the blue.

I HAVE THIS RCA TRUFLAT 20F420T TV. IT WOULD STAY ON ABOUT A MINUTE THEN SHUT OFF. SOMETIMES SHORTER PERIOD OF TIME. THIS IS HOW I SOLVED MY PROBLEM.
FACING THE TV PUT A TWO INCH PIECE OF WOOD BOOK OR SOMETHING UNDER THE RIGHT FRONT SIDE OF TV ABOUT 5 INCHES FROM EDGE. NO PROBLEM CUTTING OFF NOW!]
WHEN I TAKE PIECE OF WOOD OUT AND LAY FLAT...IT WILL CUT OFF! SO I TILT MY HEAD TO ONE SIDE AND WATCH TV. NO KIDDING!

I read on another web site that it might be dust inside your t.v. several people had this problem and used a blow dryer in the bottom left corner area......... for about 10 minutes on the hot setting, it worked for them maybe it will for you to.

Vizio light is on on the front of tv, but when you turn it on it says no signal and turns off. VX37L

Your TV may be in RGB mode. Immediately after turning your TV on, press the TV button on the 'input' section of the remote. Hopefully that works for you. Your TV is designed to turn itself of in RGB (monitor) mode if no signal is present.

Mitsubishi WS 65513 turns itself off

I had a similar problem with my Phillips 42 in. LCD HD TV.

Here's the problem. The Power Supply Board. I opened my TV up(warranty was up of course) and found several bad capacitors. Phillips and several other companies were sold capacitors that although were highly rated failed within 5 years because of a lack of preservatives. All sorts of electronic equipment is now being effected due to these defective capacitors.
Solutions?
1. Take it in and have it fixed
2. Open it up, check the board for faulty capacitors(bulged or leaking) Buy a new Power supply board and install it.
3. Remove PSB, remove faulty capacitors and replace with compatible new ones.

Hope this helps

TV turns on, then immediately off again

hi nel2874

so, you have a television that turns off immediately after you turn it on.
It sound like your power supply on the unit is out. Because I don't know the value of your unit I cannot comment on replacing the unit. But I would recommend that you use our website to find a Flat Panel TV Repairman near you. You may want to call to get an estimate on replacing the power supply before considering replacing the unit.
