Question about KitchenAid Washing Machines

2 Answers

Fixed the agitator on a Kitchenaid Washer model KAWE5778WHO, the agitator now works fine. However, when I turned on the machine I noticed it was leaking under the left side and when it went through the spin cycle it really spun out of whack. It sounded like it was imbalanced. I did loosen and retighten the bottom bolts on the motor assembly under the machine, but I retightened them. I also noticed a cotter pin, thick pin about 1.5 inches in length and a plastic cap with a male arrow-shaped (with a "made" split down the middle) flange had also come loose. What happened? It didn't spin out of control before, I believe I must have imbalanced the machine somehow.

I went back "under" the machine, repositioned the tub assembly, loosened and then retightened the bolts - no problem now.
    Thanks.

Tighten the plastic cap flange. And check. But if any of the part mentioned in your question looks cracked then it has to be replaced. Most probably as per the problem it indicates that any of the nut or bearing is got loose and not connected properly or the tub assembly is not placed properly, its bit out of its alignment. It needs to be again disassembled and refitted then checked. If you require part by part disassembly for your washing machine. Please click the link directly. This will help you to disassemble and reassemble the washing machine to its actual settings. http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kitchenaid-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-KAWE577BWH0/0593/0153200?pathTaken= -------------- If you want agitator disassemble and assemble diagram click on this link:-- http://www.searspartsdirect.com/partsdirect/part-model/Kitchenaid-Parts/Washer-Parts/Model-KAWE577BWH0/0593/0153200/O2021948/00005?blt=06&prst=&shdMod= ----------------

I have an older model top load washing machine made by Kitchenaid along with the dryer. The dryer will not get hot but runs fine. When I plugged in the washer it came on and filled up but no spin at all....

The washer sounds like it may be the switch for the door may not be working and for the dryer could be thermal protect sensor tripped or bad thermal sensor on gas valve

Upper portion of Whirlpool agitator not turning

Your agitator dogs are worn out. Remove the agitator and seperate the upper section from the lower section. There are 4 small teardrop shaped pieces that are the agitator dogs. They have either come apart over time or at least the teeth have worn off them.
Post back with any questions. Please verify the model number. I couldn't pull up a parts list for it. I know the last digit should be a 0 (zero) instead of an o.
Thanks/Mike

The agitator in the machine stopped working. I can spin it freely by hand in either direction

Sounds Like the agitator dogs are worn or broken. they are easy to change
  1. Remove the Fabric Softener Dispenser (#1 on diagram)
  2. Remove the Agitator Bolt. (#2 on diagram)
  3. Replace the Agitator Repair Kit
There are 3 Lengths of agitator cams
If you go to http://www.appliancepartspros.com/partsearch/model.aspx?model_id=503228&diagram_id=28254127#d28254127

And Click on #20 on the Agitator, basket and tub Diagram
You can see pictures of the 3 lengths of cams order the one that matches your washer

It is faily easy to fix. all you need is the part..b9ee9bf.jpg
You flip up the controls and remove the cabinet. The pump and motr come off easily. These web pages really give a good explanation:

Kitchenaid top load wahing machine # YKAWE870BW1

You need to replace little gears called agitator dogs. Once agitator is removed pull top half of it off. Exposes the dog carrier.
