Question about Brother XR-65t Mechanical Sewing Machine

1 Answer

We have a brother mechanical one. The bottom thread is too loose and even with a corresponding loose setting of top thread, the stiches are not great. Is there a way to fix it (such as tightening the bottom thread)?

Do you have the booklet any longer for this machine? Is it the XR-65t? It should definitely have a tension setting for the threads. This is a very common problem with all sewing machines, and most all have tension adjustments... something I would have thought you'd have adjusted quite frequently. You definitely can turn a knob somewhere on that machine and tight up that adjustment. That is all that is need.

Thanks
Tim

Suddenly my brother xl-2220 is sewing strangely! The top stich is fine, no tensio issues, but when I look at the bottom stitch it isn't right! The stitch is very loose and looks like the pattern a snake...

totally rethread, and do this test, rethread with the presser foot up, pull the thread it should feed smoothly, now lower the presser foot, pull thread, it should barely move. This will seat your thread in the tension discs, Also, don't be afraid to change your needle often.

Lower thread very loose. can=t get even stich top and bottom?? thanks ruth hatch

Unthread and rethread the machine according to the manual. Sounds like you do not have it threaded right, make sure that your needle is inserted right (flat side faces away from you) and that it is not bent, replace it if you aren't sure if it is dull.

How to adjust tension the underside stich is loose and tangled, the top stich is fine

Usually it is your top threading is not right, double check that. Read you manual carefully, even if you think you know how to thread it, do it over again. Good luck

Top stitche is to tight and bottom stitche is to loose

Meaning you have adjusted the tension for the top thread as well as the bobbin?

Use two distinct colors of thread - one for the top and one for the bottom.

Thread the machine with the presser foot up.

The two threads should meet in the middle of the stitch with neither obvious on the opposite side of the seam.

Set the top thread tension to 4 and adjust the bobbin as needed.

Tension problem

Set the top tension as recommended by the mfg - this is usually between 3 - 6.

Now re-thread the machine with the presser foot up and see if this doesn't eliminated the loopy stitches.

What appears to be an issue with the bobbin may actually be the top thread was not seated into the tension during threading and the tension cannot control the flow of thread to the needle and you get a loopy stitch.

Keep the bobbin case clean as built-up lint can cause stitching problems.

Tension is gone loopy stiches both top and bottom.

Lift the presser foot when you thread the machine and this should resolve the problem.

When the foot is up, the tension is open and can accept the thread as it should.

When the foot is down, the tension can control the flow of thread according to the setting you have selected.

The top stiches are overlaying and the bottom stitch is loose

Remove the thread from the machine.
Raise the presser foot.
Turn the handwheel until the take-up lever is at it's highest position.
Set the upper tension to 5.
Re-thread the machine.

Stiching

It sounds like a thread tension problem. Find the knob for the tension and play around with it (look for instructions in the manual). If that doesnt work it might be the bobbin thread thats too lose in which case I would take it to the store or a repair service and have them show you how to do it.
