Question about Toto Drake ADA Compliant Toilet with Elongated Bowl

1 Answer

My husband dropped Q Tips (around 20) in the toilet and instead of taking them out, flushed them! Now when you flush, the water fills instead of draining then initially has the correct amount of water in the bowl, but that immediately drains out slowly. Plunger didn't work. Snake can't go in far enough. Do we need a plumber to take the toilet apart?

If the snake won't reach, it is not the toilet, but rather in the wasteline. if the qtips were the sort with paper stems and not plastic, you can use a bacterial enzyme drain opener to clear the clog over a few days. qtips should not have clogged the line. You likely have some buildup on the inside of your wastelines that will be cleaned out by the bacterial treatment. The chemical solutions are not as thorough as the bacterial and they are quite hard on sewer and septic systems.

After you flush the the toilet the valve will not release to refill the tank

You should replace your fill valve. They are cheap (around $10), and easy to replace. Visit your local hardware or plumbing shop. Instructions are on most packages. In the meantime, if you have a toilet full of nasty, just pour water right into the bowl, when it reaches a certain level it will flush. If it doesn't flush, you have a clog! Your flapper valve may also be the culprit, if you flush and the water just keeps running into the holding tank, the problem is the flapper! Also cheap and easy to replace. Whenever i have a problem I buy a toilet rebuild kit. They are about $20, and will work with most standard toilets. I hope this was helpful!

Toilet is running

The most common reason for a toilet to continue to run is a problem with either the flapper or the entire flush valve itself. The water is slowly draining so the fill valve keeps running.
The flapper is the least expensive and easiest solution, so start their. It's usually around $5. If that doesn't solve the problem, I would purchase a flush valve kit, around $20, and replace your flush valve.
*Note: If you have to replace the flush valve, you have to take your toilet apart. Start with the flapper.

Jacuzzi toilet

After flush the system must close the hole which lets water into the toilet. If it does not close after flush, it is continuously letting the water thru. Check if it closes after flush and allows tank to fill.

Toilet takes a long time to fill up after flushing

Perhaps the shut off valve is not fully open, or constricted. Try opening and closing the shut off valve to loosen any sediment. Otherwise, replace shut off valve.

Flush is weakening. Toilet paper won"t flush

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

i dont think you have toilet issue,

Try this. take a large bucket, like a paint or home depot orange bucket. fill 1/2 way...
put some toilet paper in the toilet. Then pour the water in fast, and see how it flushes. it it does a easy flush then your drain is ok. if its slow, you have a drain issue and not the toilet.

if that the case, then goto the toilet, and clean out all of the little holes, that are around the unit.. where you see the water come out. they can be clogged up. a small type wire like a clothes hanger.

I have a toto toilet that doesn't start to refill until a couple of minutes after I flush. Any ideas. Thanks.

Several ideas. Start to fill? Have you looked inside the tank to see what's going on? If it just filling very slowly, then you most likely have some calcuim build up inside your flush valve blocking some flow, if this is the case you will have to clean the flush valve. If your flush valve is staying up and the toilet is "running" unitil the float drops. The float (either the arm ballcock style, or newer fluidmaster) is rubbing on either the flush lever or side of the tank, and taking longer to drop to let the water start flowing. I

Not being a plumber by trade I don't want to bad mouth what your plumber had to say but there may be other things to consider.
If the toilet does not flush directly into the main drain there is the possibilty that the coupling between the main drain and the toilet drain is under-sized which could cause reduced water flow and your toilet not flushing completely.

Water level drops in bowl after it fills

If very little water is used on initial flush, The bowl is functioning as a tank for second thorough flush. The high water level cannot stay high in the bowl while in motion or you would have a mess ion start and stops.
