Question about Seagate FreeAgent Pro - 500GB, 7200 RPM, USB 2.0, eSATA, External 500 GB Hard Drive

Hi, I have brought seagate expansion portable drive with serial number 2GH351ND.Its is working fine till yesterday. But it is not detecting now on my system and giving soft beep. It is showing in device manager but not giving any property. I have tried to connect it another system but it is not detetcting there also. Please let me know what should I do?

Try going into the Device Manager and look under USB Controllers. It may be disabled there and just needs to be enabled again.

Sounds like driver problem to me. Re install the driver by using installation disc, or if you have lost your CD, than use this Driver Update Software to update. I hope this helped.

Have you tried connecting the drive to another computer using Windows 7 or later. You could try chkdisk /f at a command prompt or get the testdisk app to identify deeper issues with the drive.

Seagate expansion portable drive won't post makes clicking noise


Very likely the head is no longer aligned, and can no read the disc correctly. This is physical damage that can not be repaired. There are specialist, but at premium prices.

I have plugged in seagate 250 GB seagate expansion portable drive into windows 7 but the disk is not detected. Can you help me how to resolve this ?


be sure power is supplied to the HDD, if and inter HDD change the cables, if is external check the USB cable and see if you need a complementary power brick or a second USB to power it.

Just take it back to where you bought it, and get them to connect it to one of their computers, to see if it works at all. If not, get them to replace/repair it, under warranty.

Serial number missing


The volume serial number is automatically generated when you format the drive. By using the Seagate utility to zero fill the drive, you have made it blank and destroyed all data, including the partition table and filesystem. Re-partition and re-format the drive.

Ebay or seagate.com may be a solution.
I've used those Seagate portables and 2 have caused problems.
Or disassemble the unit, remove the drive and buy a portable case or USB adapter.
