Hi scoot

Is a simple procedure, just change the existing capcitor for a new one. Do you have the old one still fitted to the unit? I will be able to steer you through it

The capcitor is a cylindical shaped device that fires up the start circuit pof your A/C. have you got the covers off yet. FIRST be sure to disconnect fully from the power supply. If you do not have a circuit breaker next to the unit, then you will need to isolate it from the mains powwer supply. You will need to remove it from the window.

    Air Conditioner Capacitors

There are two critical specifications that need to be identified when
looking to replace an air conditioner's fan or compressor run
capacitor, the voltage and the capacitance rating in microfarad (uF or
MFD). The physical size and shape (round/cylindrical or oval) is
irrelevant except for mounting considerations and you will often find
newer capacitors considerably smaller then old ones of the same rating.

    As
a replacement you can use an alternative of a higher voltage rating
without any problems but the capacitance should be within 10 percent of
the original but an exact replacement is always best.

    Some
models may utilize a 'dual' capacitor where the compressor and fan
motor capacitor are built into one. On this type you will see 3 groups
of terminals across the top of it. There will be one set of common
terminals, one group for the fan motor and another for the compressor
    wiring.

The common terminals on a dual capacitor will usually be indicated with
the letter "C" near the associated terminal set, the fan side may or
may not be indicated. The compressor will almost always be indicated
with the word "herm" (short for hermetic) indicating part of a
hermetically seal system (which the compressor is part of).

Dual capacitors are usually considerably more expensive to replace than single purpose ones.

I searched for a service manual for you to make the job easy, but did not find much of anything unfortunatly. I was able to locate a source for the part you need. :)

You can purchase the part you need online from here

The part is not hard to change, as it mounts with a clamp, and has some wires connected to it. They just need to be replaced to the new part as removed from the old one. If you need more advice, or just a confidence boost.. :)
I am here to help, just let me know.

    Thanks for using FixYa

How to wire Dayton capacitor E136401

It appears this is a 7.5 microfarad (mfd) capacitor like the ones installed on fans. If your fan motor has two brown wires, in addition to the black and white power wire, just fasten the two brown wire to the leads on the capacitor and insulate the connection with electrical tape and mount the capacitor in some dry convenient location inside the controls section of your unit. Be carefull to mount the capacitor in a location where it does not short an electrical connection.

If the capacitor is replacing the low side of a dual capacitor, for example a 35/7.5 capacitor, extend another lead from the common side of the dual capacitor to one side of the 7.5 capacitor and place the one brown lead from the fan motor to the other lead on the capacitor. If trying to replace the lower side, it is better to just replace the dual capacitor.

I have an outside unit mfr Goodman, model # CKL-49-1. The blower motor isn't working. I'm able to hear it attempting to start. How do I check this motor to see if it's bad? Thanks

You have bad capacitor on your unit it may not look bad but chances are it is just get the microfarad rateing of the side of the cap. should be like 55.5 55 7.5 something like that. Also check your fan motor. last. I have changed hundreds of caps this year. Russ

A/c unit has burned 2 capacitors within 1 month. the fan motor is running, but the compressor does not turn on. the system has a hard start kit installed. a/c tech recommends installing new unit for around...

Sounds like they did all that could be done. As long as they installed the right capacitor I will agree with this diagnosis to install a new unit. I don't know what you mean by "unit". 1900.00 seems a little low for a condenser and a little high for a compressor. But that is just me.

It is a Ruud UAKA-024JA2 combination of air conditioner and central heater. The outside air conditioner fan stopped running but buzzed. The capacitor is out of order. Do you have instructions how to locate...

I'm not sure how you determined that the capacitor needs replaced without being able to check it. But the capacitor is the round tube attached inside the box. It will have several wires coming from the top. it sits down in a round hole and is held in place with two screws. Rudd usually (although not always) have gray plastic capacitors. note when you disconnect the capacitor which wires go to herm (that is your compressor) fan and common. Usually the fan is brown and the compressor is yellow or orange. there are usually two wires on the common. Note how many microfarad the capacitor is and replace with same rating. the 5 microfarad side is for the fan. I would however replace the whole capacitor.

Hello, the capacitor is a round or oval metal can that is located in the control pnael of the outside unit. In order to replace it you must turn off power to you unit and unhook the wires that go into the capacitor, but make sure you label them so you remember where they go back. When you unhook the wires take a screw driver with a insulated handle and put in across the terminals of the capacitor to discharge it. Then just remove and install new one.

Blower motor doesn't start with capacitor installed!

you need a meter that will measure uf (micro farads) it should read within about 10% of the rating 12.5uf otherwise you could charge it with an insulation tester (megger) and short the terminals with an INSULATED screwdriver to see if it discharges.

How to wire a capacitor to a condencing unit

I can help you:
1: Put a Piece of Tape on each wire. write #1 #2 #3 etc
2: do the same on the capacitor.
3: Remove Wires with insulated needle nose pliers, and take a Insulated Screwdriver and Cross it over the Terminals on the Capacitor. Its safe, it just Discharges it.
4 Remove and go to lowes or home depot and get a new one.

5:Note the "RED" dot on the old Capacitor.make sure that you hook the same wire on the new cap.

6: Install New Capacitor and, your ready to go.

Make sure you pull out the "Service Disconnect" Breaker Located on the Wall next to the condensing Unit Before you do any work. Replace when you are done..

Hope i Helped

Outdoor fan motor is not running fast enough?

Check to make sure that you have the correct voltage going to the motor. It sounds like you lost one of your legs of power which would give you 110v instead of 220v. Or it could be in the pc board.
