Snap on fitting no longer stays on faucett

Our kenmore portable dishwasher was working fine more a couple months but now the snap on fitting keeps popping off during the cycle spraying water all over the place. It seems the small white plastic things on the inside of the head are stripped. Is there a way to replace just the head part of the hose instead of replacing the entire hose?

    Kenmore portable Dishwasher Model# 665-1784200

Only 2 years old and the "LOcking Collar"on the Faucet adapter keeps pottin off during the water cycle spurting water all over the place.I paid $69 to a local appliance repair person and he wants anothe $89 for the collar assembly and to install this assembly another $90 to disaaaemble the cabinet and disconnect the old and install the new Coupler assembly, part# 3378117.What a waste of time and money.Four tiny white plastic knobs are probably slightly wore enough so that they slide off the locking collar. If there was a way to replace the tiny plastic parts, the repair job would be very simple and for a do-it your-selfer the cost would be under $5.00.

Is there a way that I could replace the tiny white plastic parts myself?

Go to and you can search by your model number for the dishwasher or any other kenmore part. The schematics magnify as you mouse over them and then you can scroll down to see the matching part number. The part 3378117 is the whole hose assembly including the faucet coupler and the full length of the hoses. Notice that the part number 3378117 has been substituted with W10217197. When I Googled for "W10217197 dishwasher" there were a number of vendors selling that part including selling it for $20 less than Sears and other vendors. Unfortunately the way the faucet coupler is crimped onto the hoses you have to replace the full length of hose [not just the coupler] but I have a problem that requires the whole hose. I've opened the cabinet up - which required a star headed driver - and from there it's just a matter of removing basic connectors inside the box.

Actually I have that problem as well. Yo do not have to replace the entire hose assembly. There is a small kit you can buy that is called "Collar AW" that you can get from any appliance parts store. There is also a part number but I do not have it in front of me right now. The kit is usually around $20-$25 and includes 4 new "teeth", spring, head and locking C-clamp. They usually only last about a year or so but it is cheaper than buying a whole new hose assembly and having to tear apart your dishwasher to assemble it. I will find the part number and post it shortly. Hope this helps.

The label on the package I bought is from FSP Part number 285170 labeled "Collar". Call up any appliance parts store and they should be able to order it for you. As I said earlier, it costs about $25.00 or so and seems to only last about a year before the "teeth" give out again. You also might want to replace your dishwasher snap adapter (screws on to your faucet) periodically because it wears out as well and that is what the "teeth" grip on to. They are usually around $5.00 or so. Better than replaceing the entire hose assembly. Hope this helps!

how do you just replace that part? I am getting ready to order one, but before I do, I need to know how to fix it.

  • Chris Nov 18, 2013

You need to depress the collar. Once you do, you will see a thin C clamp. Remove the clamp and the collar, spring and teeth will come off rather easily. replace the teeth (you may have to hold them in place)put on the spring and then the collar. Depress the collar and put on the C clamp. That will hold it all together. You may want to replace the snap adapter on the faucet as well as it wears out too.

One other thing:Sometimes the new collar wont fit correctly back on to the assembly (Wont depress when trying to put the c-clamp on.) Just use the old collar if this happens.

Spray arms not working

Hi frustrated in Raleigh,
I understand that the spray arms are not moving or spraying water, even after you have cleaned the screens and arms. What might be happening is you are not getting enough water pressure to the dishwasher.
The hot water line to your dishwasher must provide water pressure between 20 and 120 psi.
Low water pressure may occur when laundry or showers are in operation.
Wait until water use is reduced before starting dishwasher.
If you are still noticing that the spray arms are not moving or spraying water, I would have a local Authorized Technician come out to see what exactly is going on with the spray arms of your dishwasher.

-Best Regards-

I have a maytag jetclean quiet pack dishwasher. The top dishes are not getting clean. The glasses always have sandy residue in them and sometimes orange juice etc at the bottom of the glass isn't removed....

Possible that the pump is not working well to spray and inject with good pressure so that the dishes are spot clean.
You will need to simulate the washer without any dish and checck the performance to understand the fault areas.
The middle section also must spray well another reason your dishes are not clean when kept low.
The entire system has to be taken out and the water flow sections must be cleaned. the pump must work and spray with high pressure or else it must be clogged , the reason for sluggish spray.
So check the inlets, the water lines and the pump.
The rest sems fine.

Kenmore Dishwasher doesn't rinse? It sounds to be working fine, however, at end of cycle, dishes are still dirty, and the front door on the inside is still dirty. Obviously there is a problem here...

try opening the dishwasher during the wash cycle stop it and open it if water is in the bottom it is filling whn you open do 1 or 2 times to check to see if spry arms are spinning if they are check to see if soap dispenser is working also use dishwasher cleaner once a month available wherever tou shop for groceries in the dish soap dept. directions are on label

No clean dishes

Internal filtersEvery dishwasher has some type of filter to keep large food particles and foreign objects away from the pump assembly:

  • Most modern dishwashers have self-cleaning filters that don't need any routine cleaning.

  • Some have filters in the bottom of the dishwasher that you need to periodically clean. You don't need any tools to remove the filter, and cleaning it is easy. Consult your owner's manual to determine which type you have and its maintenance requirements.
If your filter is clogged, it may be causing the cleaning problem.

Drain valve

Some dishwashers have a valve (or gate) that should open only during draining. If debris lodges in the valve, it can't close properly, so water drains out during the wash cycle. Most dishwashers drain into the garbage disposer. If yours does that, listen for water flowing into the disposer during the wash cycle. If you can hear it then, the drain valve may be clogged.

Spray arms

There's a spray arm at the bottom of your dishwasher--it may have a tall spray tube mounted to the center of it. There may also be a spray arm located directly beneath the upper rack of dishes and/or above the upper rack.

If debris is blocking the holes in the spray arms where the water comes out, it could cause cleaning problems. Regularly inspect each of the spray arms and clean out the holes as necessary.

Detergent cups
Dishwashers don't perform their best if detergent is introduced only at the beginning of a cycle, so add detergent to both parts of the cup.

If the detergent cup isn't opening, see the "The detergent cup doesn't open" section, below.

Note: Dishwashers are usually wired directly to the home’s electrical system. To disconnect the power, switch off the circuit breaker or remove the fuse for the electrical circuit the dishwasher is attached to. Try to turn the unit on after disconnecting the power to be sure you were successful.

CAUTION: If you’re not sure you’ve shut off the power properly, DO NOT CONTINUE. Call a qualified appliance repair technician to complete the repair.

Dishwasher not spraying

It could be a motor or a pump issue. The dishwasher has a motor that attached to a pump which forces the water up into the sprayer arms and during the drain cycle, it pushes the water out of the dishwasher. The motor (and pump) located beneath the dishwasher. Good luck!
