Question about Lexmark Wheelwriter 15 Series II Typewriter

1 Answer

There is a problem with getting the platen to click into place on right side and when I type I am only getting the top half of the letter. The plastic part on the right that holds the platen in does not seem to be damaged, but it just won't click into place and stay there.

Occasionally the latches crack, if it is the R. one it is replaceable, if it is the L. one the platen needs replaced, if the latch is just cracked, not broken you can spread it open and roll up a piece of paper and jam it between the plastic ears. Any parts you need are available from us.

Ibm wheelwriter 10 only typing half the letter

If it is only one letter, it could be broken in half. Pull the printwheel out and look at it. If it is all charachters, push down firmly on the platen on the side where the print is worse. It should click back down into place. Sometimes the platen unlatches.

Will only type half a letter

See if letter is on the ribbon correctly full character or half, could be ribbon feed or the IBM have locks that hold the platen (RUBBER ROLLER) in place , I think they were blue squeezze parts on each side may they have come up and the platen is not seated properly.

If it is the top half the platen has worked loose. Press down firmly on both sides it should snap into place.

I have an IBM Wheelwriter 15 Series II and the ribbon needed replaced so we replaced it, now when you try to top it just types the top half of the letters??????

Make sure both tabs on the rear of the cartridge are in their respective slots. If that does not work, try pushing down on the black platen roller on both ends. If one side is not locked in place, you will get half letters.

IWhen i turned it on it only types half the letters/numbers etc

If it is only typing the top half of the letters the platen may not be fully seated in the side frames, push down firmly on both ends of the platen it should snap into place.

Only typing half of each letter

If it is the top half the platen is probably not fully seated in the sideframes, press down firmly on both ends of the platen it should snap into place.

I am only getting half of the letters, and it is stuck on del, typing how can I get it off delayed typing?

I'M assuming this is a wheelwriter 30 or similar. On the R. side of the keyboard is a key that says print mode press that and the dl prt will go off on the display. If you are only printing the tops of the letters the platen is probably not fully seated in the side frames press down firmly on both ends it should snap into place.

Wheelwriter 3500 only printing top half of letters

Sounds like the platen is not fully seated in the side frames, align the black latches with the frames and press firmly on both sides of the platen. the latches do occasionally crack in witch case you may need a platen replacement.

Only typing half letters and numbers

On the WheelWriter series, sometimes the platen may pop out of position, causing only half the letters to print. If this is the case, easially solved... Using the left and right platen knobs, firmly push down to lock it back in place. Hope this helps....MediaMan
