Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My ACER Apire Timeline 3820TG was shipped with the (large) 9-cell battery. I have bought a smaller spare 6-cell (original), but the machine will not recognize the new battery ('no battery detected') and consequently the battery does not charge. At first I thought the spare battery was defect, had it replaced free of charge, but the second one behave just the same. The spare battery is labeled 'AS10B41 (31CR19/66-2). I have tried to update the Microsoft ACPI driver, and I have updated the BIOS to 1.17, but nothing helps. I am running Windows 7 Home Premium (64 bit). Can you help.....?

I just tried (both with and without battery in)........now change.

  • michael_deru Oct 01, 2010

All battery related icons in the device manager are normal (green, no warning signs)

  • michael_deru Oct 01, 2010

under Batteries I see (1) AC Adaptor, (2) Microsoft ACPI-compatible control method battery and (3) Microsoft-composite battery.

    under System-devices I see 5 ACPI devices. (1) ACPI-cover/lid, (2) ACPI-button for fast function, (3) ACPI button for hibernation and (4) (5) ACPI thermal-zone

Sorry it is translated from Danish......my OS is Danish, and it is the original that came installed on the machine.

I doubt that it is a battery problem as I have two ones (brand new) and they behave the same.

  • michael_deru Oct 01, 2010

I have tried that several times (and for the sake of good order I have just tried it again), after scanning for new HW the driver is installed, but the icon in the process bar still say 'no battery detected'.....

  • michael_deru Oct 01, 2010

I allready replied to this.......tried out, but no change.

  • michael_deru Oct 03, 2010

it is now the third time I get this advice......I have tried it and it does not help.

Have you tried to cycle the notebook and battery?

Take out the battery and unplugged the power adapter. Press and hold the power button for 30 secs then release after 30secs. Put the battery/adapter back in.

Please do get back if this does not work.

Kindly check your Device Manager and see if the battery is detected there. Please write back what you see.

In the Device Manager , what do you see under ACPI?

Is this the original OS that came with it?

It is a known issue for Acer notebooks that they
have a custom driver setup only designed for the original OS it comes
with which may explain why none are found for Vista or newer.

Another thing you can do just to see if this is a battery problem or not, try using the battery with a different notebook.

Thank you Michael for getting back. As I understand nothing in the Device Manager indicates that it is not detecting the battery.

One possibility is its power management software may have become corrupt.

In order to correct problems with the battery's power management software, follow the steps below.

    1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .

    2. Expand the Batteries category.

    3. Under the Batteries category, right-click the Microsoft ACPI Compliant Control Method Battery listing, and select Uninstall .

WARNING: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.

    4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes .

Alternately, select Action > Scan for hardware changes .
    Windows
will scan your computer for hardware that doesn't have drivers
installed, and will install the drivers needed to manage your battery's
power. The notebook should now indicate that the battery is charging.

Sounds like we have done every possible solution here; updated the BIOS, reinstalled the driver and power cycled.

I suggest calling Acer for support if this is still under warranty.

Need to plug in large sd card into smaller slots on acer computer what do I need

You will need an adapter "Yes" You have a Micro vs a Mini I believe here is a good link for the type of adapter you may need. They are found at Bestbuy and Walmart as well I just bought one. Also amazon.com has really great pricing and fast shipping I use them all the time for these sort of items for sure. I just checked the price at amazon and it was $7.00 instead of $19.00

I have an acer aspire one netbook KAV60 (japanese keyboard) that needs a new battery. This battery is UM08A41 (2200). I think it is a 3 cell. Can I interchange it with a 9 cell? Also, is the UM08A71 the...

The UM08A41 is a 9 cell battery
The UM08A71 is a 6 cell battery
Both of these batteries will fit your notebook but the A41 will last longer than the A71 battery. These notebooks are produced to be very inexpensive and the 6 cell batteries are usually in there to save money. A 9 cell battery is a common upgrade.

Dead

I've had battery dead problems on my Acer Aspire 3680 to the point where I have had to buy new batteries for it every 6 months to 1.5 years. The original 6 cell battery lasted about 1.5 years. Then, I got a high capacity 9 cell battery that lasted only 6 months off Ebay.com. They accepted it back as a defective battery and I got a partial refund.
I bought a couple more batteries for about $32-$39 a piece. Not a bad investment.

Also, check your charger, but on my Acer I've never had a problem there.

Hi

Thank you for your query

Please ty the following

1) Power on laptop
2) Continuously press the F8 key until a start up menu is presented
3) Choose safe mode
4) Once safe mode has loaded up click on Start>Programs>Accessories>System tools>System Restore
5 Once this has loaded up please choose the option entitled 'restore my computer to a earlier time'.
6)From this calander choose a highlighted black dat to take the computer back to and click next
7) This will restore the PC to a earlier time and hopefully cure the loop your laptop is currently stuck in

If the above fails then unfortunatley you will need to reformat the machine
