How do I get the f12 key to work. It is controlling the airplane mode

According to the manual F12 is used for turning the wireless on or off. This is not airplane mode.

The keys can be set on or off in the Bios and the manual gives the instructions to do so.

Here is the manual

To start Setup Utility (BIOS), turn on or restart the computer, quickly press esc, and then press f10.

HP Pavillion dv9700 does not power on

It would seem that the power button is faulty, usually, this is because one or more of the four solder connections by which the switch is attached to the printed circuit has become detached, sometimes caused by pressing it too hard. Rectifying this is quite an intricate job requiring a lot of disassembly and skilled soldering. If you are in any doubt take it to a professional.

Check your keyboard for a key being stuck in the down position. Usually when you get that error sound you have a key stuck as though it has been pushed.

My hp pavillion dv9700 does not start up and get stripes please help

First up we have to determine whether this is a screen related problem or graphics card related. Try connecting the laptop to an external monitor and see if the problem persists. Post back with your observations so that we can continue troubleshooting.

HP Pavillion dv9700 won't power up

Try removing the battery and using only power cord to turn the laptop on. If that fails, try turning it on without power cord, just on battery.

If none of those work, then most probable cause of your problem is motherboard. Hopefuly you are either under manufacturer warranty or you have extended warranty with your vendor where you've purchased the laptop.

If your laptop turns on on power cord, but without battery, then battery is the problem. Also, if laptop turns on when it's only on battery but it doesn't when you plug ac cord in it, then the adapter is the problem.
