Will need to check if the motor is working the power to the switch and then to the motor.
Look for a reset switch on the underside which could have reset, this can happen if there is an overload on the mixer.
If the motor is not working check if the brushes are contacting, if not clean and set.

STAND MIXER SPINS FOR A SECOND OR SO THEN STOPS

can you clarify a little more, it is either a gear problem or an electric problem, are there any other symptoms? Like sound noises, grinding fast speed when it does run for those few seconds or really slow. if it is running fine while it does run then it is more likely a speed plat or phase control board. please let us know

Taking my P660 out out a building with 3 phase power and into one with only single phase. Converter says motor will run on 2/3 power. Good or bad idea????

Good!

MOTOR:

ventilated within mixer enclosure. Single-phase is

capacitor-start, induction-run type.

Three-phase is

polyphase squirrel cage, induction-run type.

Single Phase 208V 20.0 Amps

240V 17.0 Amps

Three Phase 208-240V 8.6 Amps

Runs wide open then quits

Looking at the parts list:

http://shared.whirlpoolcorp.com/assets/pdfs/literature/Repair%20Part%20List%20-%208204551.pdf

find item 9. It is a hall effect sensor which measures the speed of the motor and feeds back that info to the controller - if it is open or shorted the motor will not be controlled and will either not run at all or run wide open.

If the motor runs and when under a load the planetary stops its not the motor. You either have a sheared key or broken gear in the transmission.
