If the computer refuse to defragment a partition it means that you do not have enough free space on that partition for the action ...so you need at least 15% free space ..the action to do is to delete some useless files or old ones you do not need anymore..and perform the action ..

How to defragment my computer focomputer efficiency

Click on start, then computer (or just My Computer from the desktop). Right click on the C: drive and then click on the tools tab. You will see defragment listed there. Click on it. Please make sure you have your screen saver disabled and are not running any other items while you defrag. If you are the defrag will fail.Alternatively you can download smart defrag 2. Just do a search for it on the internet and you should find the download. This is a much more stable and effective program than the windows defrager.
Good luck and I hope this helps

Speeding up a computer by Defragmenting Hard Drive

Is your computer running slow? Have you tried running anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-malware software to speed it up, but to no avail?

Perhaps cleaning up your hard drive could help. This tip will explain, in step by step instructions, how to defragment your hard drive.

To Defragment your hard drive:

1) Go to My Computer.
2) Right click on your C drive.
3) Click Properties.
4) Click the "Tools" tab at the top.
5) Click "Defragment now..." in the middle of the window.
6) In the window that pops up click "Defragment disk"
Defragmenting your disk physically moves files that are similar or
fragmented into an area that will more efficiently use your space.
5) The Disk Defragmentor will analyze your hard disk.
6) After analyzing it will move and defragment the information appropriately.
Disk Defragmentation is complete. You should see noticable improvements in your computer's speed and preformance.

When I go to compose mail, I cannot attatch a file. Where it used to say

  • The majority of the time the reason an e-mail will not open or send is because the computer is cluttered from extended use without being cleaned up (defragmanted).

  • IF you have McAfee then you can access their defragmentor. If you have one on your operating system you can access it their as well. This is part of "optimizing" your computer.

  • Open your browser and go to tools and erase all your history, cookies, CACHE, etc. This will clean thing up a bit there.

  • Also if you have a ton of music, pictures and videos on your computer you may want to put them onto a thumb drive as these things can slow your computer down as well.

  • To defrag a MAC ---
  1. 1. Open the Disc Utility program, which is located in the "Utilities" folder of your "Applications" directory. Highlight your hard drive from the list and have the program repair the permissions.
  2. 2. Look for a program to defrag your computer. There are some free utilities that can work on your Mac hard drive, but you should seriously consider purchasing a program because of the stability and support that comes with a purchased product.
  3. 3. Take steps to back up your data before you defrag a Mac hard drive. Data loss is unlikely with well-respected programs, but defragging is a long and extensive process, and you can never be too safe.
  4. 4. Plan to run your defragging program during a time when you won't need to use your computer. No matter which program you decide on, it can take up to several hours to defrag a Mac hard drive. Some companies even suggest running the program overnight.

  • Mac Janitor is pretty easy to use. You just click on the pic that says "All Tasks" and the defrag will run. When you see "done" then it is done.

  • If you have a PC and are running windows then the is usually a disk defragmenter available.
  1. 1. Click on the globe in the lower left hand corner of your screen and type in defragmentor.
  2. Then defragment the C drive.

  • Make sure to empty the trash as well.

  • When you have done all this you need to restart your computer twice. After the reset let everything boot up all the way. Then reset it again. Then go try your e-mail and you will be surprised how fast the e-mail, and the web in general works for you now.

  • Also I recommend that you run a full security sweep with your internet security program as well. Make sure that stays up to date. And make sure when all is said and done that you do two resets of your computer.

  • Hope this helps

I cannot delete my emails after reading them

  • Hello and thank you for the opportunity to help. The first thing to do is defragment your computer. The "Disc Defragmenter" can be accessed in your computors programs. If your running Windows there is a little "globe" in the lower corner of your screen. Press that globe and type in "disk defragmenter" and make sure to defragment everything Make sure to clear all your cookies, history and cache. Make sure to clear your browsing history as well (this is done in from accessing your tools in your browser) then after that reset your computer. Most of the time when your e-mails won't open, you have troubles sending e-mails or won't delete it is really because your computer needs a good cleaning and then reset so it speeds up and process properly. This will take you a few minutes to do, especially if you do not do any of the items listed very often. I do each of the items listed every day.

How can I defrag my Dell optiplex760?

How to Defrag a Dell Computer
1. Open the My Computer window. To do this on a Dell computer, click on the "Start" button at the bottom of the screen. Then, click "My Computer".
2. Choose the hard disk drive that you want to defrag. Locate the section entitled "Hard Disk Drives." In this section is a list of hard drives on the computer. For most Dell computers, the hard disk drive you will want to defrag is Local Disk (C:).
3. Right-click on the hard disk drive you want to defrag on the Dell computer. If you want to defrag your C: drive, then right-click on "Local Disk (C:)". A menu bar will appear.
4. Click on "Properties." "Properties" is the last option on the menu bar. This opens the Local Disk (C:) Properties window.
5. Click the "Tools" tab. The Tools tab is the second tab in the Local Disk (C:) Properties window. The tabs are located on the top of the window.
6. Click the "Defragment Now" button. The "Defragment Now" button is in the Defragmentation section of the window. This opens the Disk Defragmenter window.
7. Click to select the disk drive you want to defrag on a Dell computer and then click "Defragment." For most Dell computers, this will be (C:). After you click "Defragment," the Dell computer will first analyze the disk drive you selected and then beginning defragging the Dell computer.
8. Wait for the "Defragmentation is Complete" message. If you have not defragged a Dell computer in a long time, then the defragging process might take a while, even as long as an hour for very fragmented Dell computers. Allow the Dell computer to run the defrag until the process is completed. You will know that the Dell computer has completed the defrag process when the "Defragmentation is Complete" message appears.
9. View the defrag report and then close the window. If you want to view the defrag report, click "View Report." Otherwise, click "Close" to close the window.

Is it safe to defragment disk while downloading from torrent or if i have downloaded half of the file and paused the download.

I would not recommend it as it may interfere with other data on your PC which could be very difficult and time consuming to fix. I would not recommend doing anything with your PC while defragmenting. I usually schedule a defrag once a month, usually in the middle of the night, so I know I won't be using it at the time.
