When we shut the fridge door a loud continuous humming noise comes from the fridge. This seems to be activated by the door light switch at the top. Thank you

There are 2 possibilities I can think of for the hum. When you activate that door switch it activates 2 fans and the compressor. There is one fan located on the compressor and one located in the vent system in the fridge. The second fan is used to circulate cool air evenly through the fridge. I would recommend holding your finger on the door switch and listen carefully whether the noise is coming from inside the back of the fridge or from the lower bottom. Lower bottom could indicate compressor cooling fan or compressor. They would need to be inspected. If it sounds more like the other fan mentioned above it would again need to be inspected. The compressor cooling fans can get stuck or become noisy due to bearing failure. The vent fan can get stuck or noisy but also in some cases if the defrost circuit is not working can chock up with ice and create a buzzing noise as the fan blades strike the ice.

Cool air when running; warm air when compressor is off.

It sounds as if warm outside air is being drawn back into the room when the unit is not actively cooling. Portable units depend on room air to carry the heat outside, & therefore will not work properly if the room is too airtight. Provide a makeup air passage by leaving the door slightly open, & see if this helps. Use a room thermometer to see if your desired temperature is being reached. Note that if the wind is strong & coming from the wrong direction, it may not be possible to prevent warm air drawback.

Why can't I lower my honeywell 8500 below 67 on cool?

With a two story house you have to be aware that cold air flows downwards so any cold air coming from an ac unit will flow downstairs( normally down the stairway) so unless you can close off the down stairs then the up stairs unit will be cooling downstairs as well. Ac units have a thermostat located in the air intake and it cools until the cold air has risen to that point. In effect the space above the ac unit will be hotter than the floor. Knowing how they work ,you can see that the upstairs unit will never reach the set temperature because the cold air is continually heating from the house and will never get to the top thermostat.
So your solutions are
1-- fit controls that restrict the cold air from leaving the upper floor (Doors)
2--don't run the upper ac unit unless you are living up there (waste of money
)3 place an ac in each upper room and keep the room door closed

My window unit is not blowing cold air. Ive used it a handful of times and it never got cold. How do i fix this?

There are very many possible causes. You do not indicate your model number, but many units take a few minutes before the compressor comes on. If the compressor is not coming on (a low rumble sound, NOT the fan), you'll get no cooling. If the compressor is coming on, and you still get no cooling, it is likely your unit needs a recharge. Things to check: Is the thermostat set lower than the room temperature? Is the unit set to "fan only"? I hope this helps lead you to the problem and a solution.

In Fan mode, fan works; but in AC mode, I can hear the normal AC sounds, except the fan never turns on. This is the fan in the lower half of the unit in the inside of the house, which blows the air...

on a call for air conditioning your therrmastat brings the indoor fan on and the out door unit at the same time. Since your fan comes on in "fan" mode, it sounds like you need a thermastat. For temp. cooling just turn your fan switch to "on" and turn system switch to cool and set desired temp. System will cycle off and on but fan will not shut off until fan control is set back to "auto". I suggest replaceing thermastat

Not cooling good

There is a fan down by the compressor that aids in cooling compressor and getting rid of the water that comes out of the freezer during defrost cycle. I am sure that you took the paper cover off the back of the unit on the lower back side so your unit might not have a fan. Now lets look at the fan inside the freezer is it running can you hear it when you open the door? Does the compressor make a clicking sound as it is hot to touch and trying to come on? get back with me ok ken

I would say that you are Right.... Sounds like that is it. It's only cooling good lower temp. because it is lower temp. check the temp. of the air coming out. should be about 48 to 55 % anywhere in there is where it should be. But keep in mind the cooler the house the cooler the air will get coming out..

Over heating

If your thermostat aint seized shut, its your heater core. You need a new one. Your heater core is another element that makes the antifreeze move in a circular motion. If it aint moving in a circular motion, your car is overheating, meaning that it could be your thermostat, heatercore, or waterpump, but I think that its your heater core. If it is your water pump, your check engine light would come on.

the problem sounds like a defective capacitor its located on the condensing unit outside, also a contactor that is used can be defective also.
