The operating system on your computer is Microsoft Vista.
Windows Vista comes with a rich feature set of diagnostic and repair tools that you can use in the event that your computer is not operating correctly. These tools allow you to diagnose problems and repair them without having to boot into Windows. This provides much greater flexibility when it comes to fixing problems that you are not able to resolve normally. Do the foll. :-
To start this process, insert the Vista DVD into your DVD drive and turn your computer on. Your computer will start and you should see your BIOS listing your hardware and other information. When that information is cleared, your computer will see that a bootable DVD is inserted and present a prompt similar to the figure below :-
Incase you do not have your Vista disc (DVD), then your computer MAY be having a Recovery Partition : you boot the computer and immidiately go on tapping on the F8 key, untill you see Windows Advanced Options : using the up & down arrow keys, highlight Repair your computer and then proceed as below :-

After you press the key, you should hear your DVD reader spinning up and then you will see a black screen with a white status bar at the bottom stating Windows is loading files.... After a while, the status bar will turn completely white and you will see a screen stating that Windows is loading. The Windows Setup environment will continue to load and when finished you will be presented with a screen similar to Figure below.

How can i fix missing os or unformatted active partition for lenovo y410?

Have you used this system before successfully?

If so it sounds like you might have a corrupt or missing boot or system file. You'll need a repair disk or system disk to fix it. You need to get to a dos prompt (black screen with white writing) and run the Check Disk command.

To run the check disk utility you will need a repair disc ora operating system disc. Put the disc in the cd drive and boot fromit. You want to get to the Dos Command Prompt (Black screen with whiteletters) and type the following command: chkdsk /r
Check disk will run well over an hour or two and you will notice thepercentages going from high to low, this is normal. Let it run tocompletion. Then reboot machine.

If check disk fails to solve your problem you might have to reinstall windows.Try doing a Repair Install that way you don't loose your data, documents, music, pictures, videos or programs.

In windows xp you get to the dos command prompt by selecting R for repair whenthe options appear.

In Vista and Windows 7 you want to get to the recoveryconsole and look down at the bottom of the window for the Dos Command.

Ntfs is missing

To resolve this problem, replace the missing or corrupted Ntfs.sys file:
  1. Use the Windows Vista startup disks or the Windows Vista CD to restart your computer.
  2. When the "Welcome to Setup" screen appears, press R to select the To repair a Windows Vista installation using Recovery Console, press R option.
  3. Type the number of the Windows installation that you want to access from the Recovery Console, and then press ENTER.
  4. Type the administrator password when you are prompted, and then press ENTER. If no administrator password exists, just press ENTER.
  5. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each command): cd \windows\system32\drivers

ren ntfs.sys ntfs.oldNote This step renames the corrupted Ntfs.sys file to Ntfs.old. If the Ntfs.sys file is not found, the file is missing.
  6. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER: copy cd:\i386\ntfs.sys drive:\windows\system32\driversWhere cd is the drive letter for the CD-ROM drive that contains the Windows Vista CD, and drive is the drive where you installed Windows Vista .
  7. Remove the Windows Vista CD from your CD-ROM drive, type quit at a command prompt, and then press ENTER to quit the Recovery Console.
  8. Restart the computer.
  9. rate me 4 thumbs up please

I have an acer aspire laptop with genuine vista os. i didnt operate for quit sometime and now, when i wanted to use it. it even didnt boot giving me a message. 'boot manager missing'. what is the problem...

If your Windows Vista computer has encountered the dreaded "BOOTMGR is missing" error, you aren't alone. If the problem isn't hardware related you can fix it with relative ease as long as you have a Windows Vista DVD handy.Boot off the Windows Vista DVD and then click Next at the first prompt:You should see a link in the lower left-hand side for "Repair your computer"The installation process will attempt to find your Vista installation directory. If there's more than one in the list, select the correct one and then use the Next button again.Click the first link for "Startup Repair".The installation process will repair the system, and then prompt for you to reboot.Alternatively you could have chosen the Command Prompt option instead, and use the following command to fix the boot options only:
bootrec /fixboot.

At this point you should be able to reboot your computer, remove the DVD and everything should be working.

My windows launcher has stopped working

Hi,

Try using System File Checker to scan your OS for missing/corrupt files, complete these steps:
Click Start, and then type cmd in the Start Search box.
In the results area, right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator. You will be prompted to type the password for an administrator account. Click Continue if you are the administrator or type the administrator password. Then, click Continue.
At the command prompt, type Sfc /scannow, and then press ENTER.

The scan may take some time, so be patient. Windows will repair any corrupted or missing files that it finds. If information from the installation CD is needed to repair the problem, you may be prompted to insert your Windows Vista CD.

Hope this helps you. Let us know either way. Make it a great day!

Good luck!
And Thanks.
