Hi,

Your convergence board has failed.
This is very very common in older projection TVs like yours - maybe the #1 problem.

The TV has three color tubes in the lower half of the cabinet that project an image off the main mirror and onto the back of the screen. The convergence board processes the signals to the tubes and adjusts the light beams so that the red, blue and green images all line up at the point where they hit the back of the screen. When the board fails, the light beams don't line up and you get the '3D' image with the separated colors and bowing near the edges.

The board has two main components called convergence amplifiers (some call them STKs or convergence ICs). They can fail. It is also common for some pico fuses or fusible resistors on the board to pop. If all three colors are off, then the STKs are probably bad. If only one color is off, then it could just be a pico fuse.

Some people have fixed the board themselves but it is not a job for a beginner. The parts are only about $60 but you need to know what you are doing. I can point you in the right direction and give you part numbers etc. but you need to have a good understanding of soldering and troubleshooting basic electronic components etc

A guide on how to fix this problem :-

To have it repaired will cost you about $300-$400.

I'm sorry it isn't the best news.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Green hue on KP-43Ht20 Sony rear projection tv

Behind the front cover you will see a little plastic box with six phillips headed dials. They only move 180 degrees. The three on the bottom control color richness and the three above them control focus. Turn all three of the bottom ones to the left while the TV is on, then gradually turn them to the right until you get the color you want. NOTE if any one of the three bottom dials are too far up the TV will shut down and will continue to turn off after about 10 seconds after start up until the offending dial is turned back a little.

The tv doesnot turn on

either the lamp needs to be replace which eventually happen in all rear projection tvs. Do you have colored lights, flashing lights on tv? It is also very possible that the power supply may need to be replaced. If you have colored or flashing lights, please let me know which ones they are and if they are a solid light or flashing and how many times it flashes.

If the tv has sound no picture, than it is your lamp. If you have nothing what so ever, than your power supply may have to be replaced.
