Question about Denon AVR-2105 Receiver

1 Answer

Denon AVR-2105 Having difficulty getting Zone 2 to work like I want. I wired up another set of speakers to run off zone 2, but am having trouble getting digital CD audio to play over zone 2. I am able to select Tuner (analog) on zone 2 & another source on main speakers. It seems like I am able to use analog sources, but I don't want to use a analog connection from the CD. If I re-configure as surround-back, I can play all audio sources & modes on the new speakers. The manual states that digital audio sources cannot be output when zone 2 is selected, but doesn't say anything about digital input sources not being able to be mapped to the zone 2 channels. Any ideas would be appreciated.

I'll check into this over the weekend...

    @ duginnz:

Let me elaborate. I think I am setup similar to what you describe. I have 7.1 in main listening area + 2 add'l zone 2 speakers in another room. I'd like to be able to switch between 7.1 and 5.1 + zone 2. As stated in the OP, this works with the caveat that zone 2 only plays analog sources. What you said makes sense, though it's not really what I wanted to hear. I'll plug in an analog cable to verify over the weekend. The only potential gotcha I see is whether or not the CD can drive both digital & analog simultaneously but I suspect it will...

What you asked about seems to be the same thing I want to do more or less (only I seem to be hung up on using a digital source for zone 2). You can use zone 2 to drive a a set of speakers from a different source but it seems it must be an analog source. I've verified this before by playing CD/DVD digital audio over main 5.1 speakers while playing analog tuner on zone 2 (pretty cool-Denon remote has a separate volume for zone 2 even).

    Thanks for the advice!

If the Cd is wired digitally, it will only play through the main zone, because the Denon cannot convert down to RCA to cater for the zone 2. If you plug RCAs from Cd to Denon, Main zone will STILL play from digital, and RCA connection will allow zone 2 to play Cd from RCA input....same with dvd, Satellite Blah blah... no stress, any nasty RCA will do if you want to try before you splash out on really costly cables...perhaps you can help me...want to run AVR 2105 with 2 speakers in zone 2, manual says cant do it - only ably to surround back or biamp...dont want either, dont have stereo yet to try it out...did you have any trouble with that?

Let the front panel blink 3 or 4 times and then release the keys (buttons)

I had the unit set to a second zone that ran into a splitter for four different areas of my house. The second zone is not working, how do I test to see if it is the denon unit or the splitter ?

Plug something other than Zone 2 into the splitter, say, any tape out on the Denon. Keep it simple. Play FM.

When and if THAT works go back to the manual and analyze why Zone 2 isn't working. Observe the Zone 2 Output indicator. (Page 5)

You must have a TV or other speaker-capable device that you can run Zone 2 OUT to. Try that to prove your setup works.

Denon AVR 1609 volume Zone 2

Logitech recommends that zone 2 is controlled using device mode on your Harmony remote. Controlling zone 1 and zone 2 simultaneously within activities may lead to the AV Receiver turning on and off unexpectedly as you switch between activities. For example, if you try to turn on zone 2 within an activity, it may turn on or off zone 1 and vice versa. Controlling zone 2 in device mode will prevent this from happening.

5ch/7ch stereo in 5 channel mode

Front panel button engaged for 5 or 7 channel operation? Also check front panel rear surround speakers button is engaged. Should get you back to 7.1 unless you have changed the rear surround speaker setup for a 2nd zone, also be sure you have a 7.1 DSP setting enabled.

Speaker connection from Denon AVR 2105 to Wharfedale suround

The spkrs sound like they are bi-amp spkrs, meaning you have multiple terminals on the backs of each spkr, the jumpers on the spkrs should be connected as such. Now you just connect the spkrs according to the Denon spkr conection diagram. Do not use the surround back unless you have 6 or 7 pair of spkrs

Denon AVR-3805 zone 2 no longer working

time to reset the microprocessor. See page 87 in manual.
1) switch off the unit using the main unit's power operation (small power button)
2) hold the PURE DIRECT button and DIRECT button at same time and turn the main unit's power operation on.
3) wait for entire display to flash in 1 second intervals

now the speakers need to be set up again but zone 2 will be working. i suspect a power surge causes the microprocesser to be corrupted. i put a power surge protector and have not had problems (lately).
