If the sim is definately ok and the phone isnt in flight mode, the Phone may be faulty, blacklisted or not designed to be used in your region (eg gsm phone in cdma only area)
Ask your service provider (people who suply your sim card) if your IMEI (type *#06#) is blacklisted, if so the previous owner has registered it lost or stolen or not paid their bill

Hi, ok, so the sim is fine, so the possible issues are

The 5200 might be in flight mode, which is a setting where the phone switches off radio reception for use in planes. see your manual.

If you obtained the 5200 second hand or not via your service provider (people who supply your sim card)

    and

1)If the 5200 is new to you it may be the wrong model for your area e.g. you live in a CDMA only area and it is a GSM only phone.

    or

2)Even if the phone isn't new to you and it was working until recently if the handset has been bought second hand its possible that the previous owner has defaulted on the bill, reported it lost, stolen or put in an insurance claim.

Ask your sim provider if the 5200 handset is blacklisted if it is it's them who are blocking it so they will be able to tell you.

if all the above check out ok then unfortunately it sounds like there is a fault with the phone which needs nokia to fix

    Best of luck

Block unwanted calls on Sony Ericsson

Blocking incoming calls on your Sony Ericsson phone is pretty simple. You can go to your service provider's website and follow the instructions they have for call blocking. They will usually tell you how to block specific calls or all incoming calls. You will most likely find a way to even block incoming text messages. This is very convenient if you don't won't to be bothered, but you don't want to miss a possibly important call either. Luckily, with a Sony Ericsson, you don't even have to go to your service provider's Web site to block incoming calls. You can do it through your phone's menu.
To do so,follow these instructions:
  1. Flip open your cell phone and go to the phone's menu.
  2. Select "Settings" and scroll down to "Calls."
  3. Select "Manage Calls" and then choose "Accept Calls."
  4. Choose to accept "All Calls", "Calls from a list" or "None". If you choose to accept calls from a list, you will have to create your list of accepted callers. This is easy. You will just scroll through your contacts and select numbers you want to accept.

To stop blocking calls, go to the same menu and choose to accept "All Calls."

I think you have activated this sim only lock. This should be found under security menu. Try unlocking i first. If none works, you may consider flashing the phone if you need the phone working.
