Question about KitchenAid KGST307 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

I have a K/A kgst307 gas stove that was bought new as a natural gas unit. After 3 years, I moved to a house that had propane. NO PROBLEM because an LP conversions kit came with the stove. Used the stove on propane for the last 6 years and am just finishing hooking the house to natural gas. NO PROBLEM as I retrieved the natural gas parts that came with the stove. BIG PROBLEM - it took a few phone calls to figure out which N/G orifice went to which top burner. The problem I now have is that the burner orifices for the broiler and oven don't even come close to matching those that are now in those burners. I do not remember changing them when I went from NG to LP. I also have 3 turned aluminum bushings that fit the holes of 2 of the top burners. They look unused and I don't remember ever having had them in the top burners. At this point I have 2 burner orifices _one red for the oven and one blue for the broiler and, as I said, they don't even come close to matching what is already installed. I made the mistake of calling Kitchenaid's customer support - what a joke. The customer support "expert" gave me a 800 tech. support phone number which had been disconnected and you have to be a registered tech. person to get access to the "new" tech. support number. Are the 2 extra orifices (red & blue) and 3 aluminum bushings really necessary? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Although the natural gas orifices for the stove top burners were replaceable with propane orifices, many ovens/broilers orifices are simply adjustable using a 1/2" open end wrench to convert from one gas to another. Some brands are adjustable and some have to be changed out. It depends on the make and model. Do you have your owner's manual? It contains detailed info on converting your unit. I included a link below to choose from the list to download your manual. You'll need your exact model # listed on your stove. Pull out the bottom drawer and look at the data plate for the model # and then find it on the list for the correct manual. Douglas

How do I know if my Caloric Heritage gas range is propane or natural gas? It is a used stove that was given to us

Stoves are usually sent from the factory set for natural gas. they have to be converted to Propane. If it is set for propane the flame will be very low on natural gas. If set for natural gas on propane the flame will be very large. The orifices for natural gas are much larger than propane orifices. and the regulator is converted acordingly.

How do I switch my electric stove over to propane?

You can change a natural gas stove to propane or go the opposite, but you cannot make an electric stove into a gas stove. You will need to buy a new stove if you want to go that route. Sorry.

Where do i find propane to natural gas conversion kit for weber spirit e310 gril

Apparently, Weber does not make a conversion kit to convert the grill from propane or from natural gas to propane. According to the Owners Manual - "Liquid propane gas is not natural gas. The conversion or attempted use of natural gas in a liquid propane unit or liquid propane
gas in a natural gas unit is dangerous and will void your warranty." (From Page # 3 of the Owners Manual)

if you know a lot about it you could convert it your self....you need to get rid of the Propane regulator....you need a Natural Gas Valve and you need to change the orifices....should be stamped on the rating plate the size of orifice for natural gas....I wouldn't recommend you do it yourself unless you have a license....or as I said know a lot about it...I wouldn't have a problem doing it in my own house...however you run into Insurance implications should anything happen if it's not an approved kit from the mfg.

Ventless gas heater smells like kerosene

It is posible that your heater is burning fumes from paint, varnish or stain and some times carpet cleaners or other household cleaners. I work for a utility company. We get called to homes for a lighter fluid/kerosene smell quit often. Most of the time it is from the fumes burning off on a standing pilot gas oven. The odor collects in the oven and is released in the customers face when they open the oven door. This will happen with any open flame appliance when exposed to these fumes.

Black is on the burners

the fuel to air mixture is set incorrectlty or your pressure at the ouitlet for the gas valve is too low.
you culd play around adjusting the first part of this but for the gas valve part you have to have a manaometer to check it out correctly. then it should be set at 10"wc. Good Luck

Problem gas cooker

Go on line to westing house.com and look up your model, go to the help page and ask for their assistance, gas is not something to fool around with, I suspect it is the orifice that have not been converted to propane, I had a similar problenm with the stove top burners, and the orifices needed to be changed to (converted ) to run on propane gas. Some times manufactures send the converter orfices but most of the time you have to ask for them if you are running on propane, most stoves are set up for natural gas not propane. Most of the time the store clerks don't ask you if you will be running on propane , you have to tell them and the professional who installs the unit needs to install the orifices. Please be careful! If you installed the stove your self, you need to contact a professional installer to correctly adjust these .

Change gas oven from natural gas to propane.

Hello littelhauler,
Most Oven manufacturers offer a conversion kit for this changeover.. I would contact a local applicance repair shop near you and tell them what you are trying to do as well as provide them with the brand and model of your stove.. They may have or be able to order a conversion kit for you..
Regards,
Rick
