Question about Olevia 227-S11 27 in. LCD TV

1 Answer

I'm honestly not sure of the model number of my television, but it is a 27 inch Olevia HD flat screen tv. This morning it turned itself on - no use of remote control or on/off button. It began to go on and off in irregular but close cycles. It worked properly for an hour or so, then began to turn itself off and on again, but continuously. I unplugged it for 4 hours, plugged it back in and it still does the same thing. It rarely stays on long enough to give me a picture, but when it does the picture looks just fine. Do you have any idea what the problem could be? It was absolutely perfect until this morning! It is very humid in Philadelphia right now - could that contribute to the problem? Thank you!

It could be the humidity contributing, but I don't think it would cause a problem like this out of the blue... It turns itself ON and OFF by itself? Hmm, if it was just turning off I would have a better understanding of what's going on, but the turning on by itself part indicates some type of hardware fault in the main board of the TV. I suppose it could be humidity that caused the board to start having issues. How old is this TV? If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.
Otherwise I would wait it out another day or so, see if it happens to correct itself, possibly leave it unplugged overnight, it couldn't hurt that's for sure, and you wouldn't want it turning itself on - possibly exacerbating the issue.
Do you think it will be less humid in the near future where you are? I hate to say wait it out, but unless you can get it fixed for free, or replaced as suggested (refunded) I would wait a bit and see what happens with it.

Can't locate fuse on my Olevia TV...what does it look like? 27 inch flat screen

The fuse is located on the power supply. You have to remove the back cover of the LCD in order to get to the power supply. The fuse should be near the AC power cord jack. If the fuse is blown, you may have bigger problems than you anticipated.

How much does a 39 inch flat screen olevia tv typically weigh?

I couldn't find a 39" Olevia TV, but I did find 37" ones and they weight a little over 50 pounds. You can find the weight for your specific model at Select the series and then click "View Full Specifications" on your model. Then click the Specifications tab and go down to Other. Gross weight should be the weight when packaged, and Net weight should be the weight of the TV by itself.

Access the TV's menu by pressing the "menu" button on the remote. Look for "Captioning" or if not on the screen try "set-up" or "audio" all the while looking for "CC", "Caption" or "Closed Caption".
When you find it, turn it off.
